There is a current rumour going round that when the new cities of sigmar are released (dawn bringers) a couple of ranges will be removed. One is the freeguild models (basically the empire line) the other is the wanderers (the remnants of the woodelves). No idea on the validity of this (the empire line does kind of make sense if they are releasing inevitably more pricey & new models) but thought I’d flag it especially as the rumour was stating a spring release.

Not the biggest loss, as the 8th Edition Empire range is probably the worst in the history of Warhammer Fantasy (maybe the 6th/7th Edition Skaven were worse?). Wood Elves are nice, though.

Wood elf stuff is just 3 units though?
Eternal guard, Wild riders and Araloth...

Probably true.. They are like Mail order only- almost? I kinde like what I have seen, those Freeguilder Crossbowmen were really nice for Mordheim.. Nicked their crossbows for my Orcs but the models are pretty good marksmen! Glad I have a few left..

I wonder if the reason for them being removed would be for an aesthetic change over anything else...
Perhaps the empire are going back to that original monopose plastic look - regimented, well turned out looking units of men with less skulls, gubbins and missing shoes...
And the wood elves, being much nearer to the high elf/wood elf split may head towards a more hoods and cloaks feeling rather than the bark armour and scary aesthetic we last had?

Citadel kits being removed from the range is just par for the coarse these days. If there is a set you like, buy it. There is no sense in waiting. They never go on sale. If you wait the only things that might happen is GW raises the price or the set goes out of production with little or no warning. Perhaps the empire are going back to that original monopose plastic look - regimented, well turned out looking units of men with less skulls, gubbins and missing shoes... Plastic? Surely you mean "that original monopose metal look".

I wouldn't think this is the case - GW haven't previewed much of the new Cities of Skubmar range yet, just a few bitz photos, suggesting it will be a long time before it arrives, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're purposefully timing it with the release of TOW, so that all the Warhammer Fantasy models in the current Cities range are moved to the inevitable TOW section of the website and the new Cities range takes their place on the AoS part of the site.
But then, if you are right and GW does delete more Fantasy models, I don't think anyone will miss the Gods-awful 7th Edition Empire State Trooper sculpts.

No, I mean what I wrote - I refer to the lion sheild monopose plastic spearmen and the handgunners Roger, those would be the models from the sixth edition starter set. Since I started playing during fourth edition, those are not the models I think of as "original". These are what I thought you were referring to (not citadel's finest work)...

To be honest I agree with sonofkurnos, the monopose Elves still stand the test of time to this day, and fit very well with the multipart Spearman kit. The only thing both those have is that they're significantly shorter than modern GW Elves are, so they look like midgets compared with my 8th Edition Island of Blood Lothern Sea Guard and Swordmasters The Archers in particular are way better than the multipart ones that came after them with the pansy hairdos and dresses. My own Archer unit is made out of 21 of those monopose figures with a command group scavenged from High Elf Spearman bodies, legs and heads plus arms from the multipart kit.

I will be sad if they remove the Wild Riders and Eternal Guard, nice newish kits and I still want a few boxes of both. Not enough to prompt me to splurge £100+ though
