Halfway though the year, so here's how I'm getting on with my goals: - Paint at least 100 more models than I get. I've currently painted 94 more models than I've bought, so well on track with the key goal.
- Paint over 200 models. I've painted 129, so doing well. I'd like to try to match last year where I managed slightly over 250.
- Keep both Dark Elf and Dwarf armies 100% complete. I have a small number of new models to paint for each - Dwarf BSB and some Dark Elf Underworlds models. This should be doable.
- Paint at least 20 Lord of the Rings / Hobbit models. Three quarters of the way there, having painted 15 Blackroot Vale Archers. I really want to paint some LoTR Elves though.
- Finish my Skaven Blood Bowl team. Haven't touched this yet. It's only 5 models to do, I think.
- Paint at least two of my big centrepiece models. Achieved. I've painted the Carmine Dragon plus a Mierce Varghulf; also a Cockatrice.
- Make a start on my Skaven, Lizardmen and Bretonnia armies. I've painted a unit of Bretonnian Peasants; I haven't done anything for the others yet. If I really want to crank through numbers for the year, I might do my 150ish Clanrats.

Ok then, half year review.
1) Get the bulk of my Lizardmen complete.
I can’t say I’ve done much on this. I have a chunk of minis primed and built and ready to go. This included an additional 30 odd sarus bought and built after this challenge was set. They will be on the list for when I want to take a break from…
2) Get stuck into my Empire.
I’m well on track for this one. I’ve so far built and painted enough models for my core and character needs at 2500pts. I’m currently working on rare and special choices. As I’m enjoying this one so much, it may mean the others are put to one side.
3) I have a ton of 3/4th Ed VC skeletons to paint up plus a load of the newer toys (coven throne, mortis engine, crypt horrors etc).
Totally untouched so far bar having built quite a few undead models curtesy of the mortal realms magazine that gave you discounted models, as well as the underworlds vampire set etc.
4) Quite literally a ton of metal OnG models from 3-6th Ed. I might pull out the odd model now and then.
Again, not touched, though I may dig some out as part of the call the crown challenge towards the end of the year
5) I also have more units here and there for my other armies. I’ve blitzed some of the armies so much over the last few years, thanks to the painting challenges, that completing these would finish the armies (until more are bought…). It’s probably why I have avoided them. I don’t like the idea of having a totally finished army!
Bits of these have been worked on, especially extra units for the Beastmen, individual character models for other armies.

If you haven't started the Coven Throne/Mortis Engine by now, you might as well give up for 2023. They're a nightmare to paint - I set mine aside part-done years ago, and haven't been motivated to touch them again.

Definitely have to paint it in sub assembles before final assembly, which I hate. But I think if I keep the color scheme simple it should be doable.

They're a nightmare to paint - I set mine aside part-done years ago, and haven't been motivated to touch them again. I haven’t but have 2 of them so I could build one of each. I did read somewhere that in one of the WD’s they showed you the best way to paint them in a sun assembly

I'm done with painting / getting models for the year, so here's how I did in 2023: - Paint at least 100 more models than I get. I have utterly smashed it this year, painting 338 models and only acquiring 76, so I managed to reduce the grey mountain by 262 models. I was really restrained in buying models this year - helped by The Old World not coming out (the Bretonnian box I intend to buy next year contains 76 models in it - same as the total I bought/was gifted over 2023), and I also painted a stupid number of Clanrats. I doubt I'll ever match this number again.
- Paint over 200 models. I reached 338, thanks mainly to 155 Skaven Clanrats, which were batch painted in just over two months. Again, this will probably be my record, as I'm steadily reducing the number of quick to paint core infantry models I own.
- Keep both Dark Elf and Dwarf armies 100% complete. I left this until late in the year, but managed to paint the small number of Dark Elf/Dwarf models needed to keep these armies complete. I even had time to add eyes to some of my older Dwarf characters.
- Paint at least 20 Lord of the Rings / Hobbit models. The one goal I failed on, I only painted 15 LoTR models. I didn't have the models I wanted primed to be able to manage a late rush on these.
- Finish my Skaven Blood Bowl team. It was only 5 models, but I got this done.
- Paint at least two of my big centrepiece models. Comfortably done, with a Carmine Dragon, Mierce Varghulf, Cockatrice, and bonus Mierce Vermin Lord.
- Make a start on my Skaven, Lizardmen and Bretonnia armies. Also achieved - I got 150 Skaven Clanrats, 30 Bretonnian Peasant Archers, and 6 Lizardmen Kroxigors painted this year.
Overall, very happy with how things went. Next year will be much, much worse, as I'll be buying and building loads of Old World models.

That's quite the list of accomplishments, sedge!
My 2023 goals were:
1) paint 100 Empire models. This always was my main army and I haven't been adding much in recent years. Sigmar can't be happy.
107. SUCCESS! now I just have to make this a habit for years to come.
2) Wood Elves. My newest army, currently at 750pts. Do as many as I can get my grubby hands on. End the year with no unpainted Wood Elves...and ideally a 2500pts army but that'll be tough.
made it to 1500pts. For unpainted I am down to ten Eternal Guard and an eagle. So, didn't quite make it but a respectable showing. TOW will likely bring the WE cavalry back into production, that should make getting a bunch of Glade Riders more feasible.
3) Expand a Nurgle Chaos Legion, currently a tad over 2k. Aiming for 3k (and secretly hoping to overachieve)
3062. SUCCESS! though not much overachieving
4) As always chip away at Grey Mountain. so mostly Empire and Chaos ( (yay, synergy with 1) and 3))
chip I did. and since I didn't buy a whole lot, the mountain is a little smaller. TOW will make this tougher next year.

You folks are amazing! Here's how I did in 2023: 1. Paint up a warband for Warcry.Done! And I put together a board with scenery too! 2. Paint up a box of Imperial Armada figures for Freebooter’s Fate. No, and since I don't anticipate needing this soon, this will be coming off the agenda for the moment. 3. Finish my Roman warband for Saga.No. Next year, maybe. 4. Paint at least *something* for my Albion and Chaos armies.Got some progress made on the Albion army, but none on the Chaos army. Going forward, I think I'll be focusing on Albion for the moment. I want to paint a giant, among other things... 5. Paint up more space marines for Horus Heresy.I painted some of these, then the Imperialis Militia list dropped and I switched to squats. How fickle... 6. And of course, also do some fun stuff and try some new techniques. This went well, and I got a range of figures done for D&D and Close Quarter Battle, so that my total for 2023 is 94 figures, a new personal best since I started keeping count! In terms of new techniques, my biggest discovery of the year was the new Vallejo Xpress Paints, which (for me) work best when put over figures that have been undercoated light grey and then drybrushed white. I guess it's a slapchop-type method. Now to start planning for next year...

Good goals, and thanks for kicking this off mine: 1) assemble and paint the 94 Warriors of Erehwon Orcs that are still on sprue 2) assemble and paint Morgok's Krushas on 25mm square bases 3) repair all broken miniatures in my collection from the move 4) repaint 400 (yes 400) OnG models to my current standard (the standards are higher, but its still a low bar) 5) add standards (the banner kind, not moral) to all my naked banner poles in my orc army 6) absolutely purchase everything greenskin in The Old World releases... and depending on when in 2023 that is, assembled, or assembled and base painted or done I've had a productive year, with lots of time spent upgrading models. 1) aazbads orc horde from warriors of erehwon - completed 2) morgoks Krushas - done 3) repair all broken miniatures - not as complete as I like 4) upgrade 400 models smashed it! .... It's more like 720 for the year 5) add standards - 28 of 30... So close 6) too soon! Must now be the 2024 goal

I know I've not been posting on this forum but I'm still painting away. Managed to finish over 300 last year including over 90 cavalry which was great. I have several goals this year: 1) Paint more than 300 miniatures, I've succeeded at this the last three years and I'm hoping to put up another good showing this year. 2) Get my Night Goblins (1500), Dark Elves (500), and Vampire Counts (2000) up to 2500-3000 points each. 3) Paint one Monster every month, an analysis of my miniature collection has revealed that I don't have nearly enough monsters, I hope to rectify this. 4) Continue building up my Chaos Legions, last year saw both the Daemons and Warriors of chaos gain about 3k each, so I want to continue that momentum. 1st goal, achieved, ended up painting 407 miniatures, a personal best. 2nd goal, mixed, Night Goblins and Undead made it up to 2,500 (even a little more on the Night Goblin side), but Dark Elves only up to 1,250. 3rd goal, failed, I made an attempt, but I only finished 5 of the 12 Monsters I had planned. 4th goal, smashing success, increased both Warriors of Chaos and Beastmen, and, what's more, went from about 1,000 points of Chaos Dwarves all the way up to 4,500. Overall a great year for painting even though one of my goals failed outright I still got more done than I ever expected. Here's to next year, and the release of The Old World!
