A few days ago I received the Warhammer: Island of Blood re-release, which contains over 25 High Elves and over 40 Skaven models. When I bought the original Warhammer: Island of Blood back in 2010, I swapped the High Elves for more Skaven with a friend. So combined with the new set, I have 3 sets of the Island of Blood Skaven models!
I've decided that I'm going to start work on a Skaven army! I'll start off with a small contingent to use as allies with my Goblins, until I have enough painted for a full army.
This blog will document my efforts. I want to point out that I'm trying a new painting style of sorts. I plan on painting my Skaven troops messily, quickly, and filthy-like. I've never done something like this before, so I'm excited to try out this technique, which I believe will work well for Skaven.
I'll be posting paint stages for most of the units on here. Feel free to comment.
Thanks!

My first 20 Skaven armed with hand weapons and shields with full command. Assembled and flocked, they will be primed brown.

Looking forward to seeing them.
I have a mate who painted up his Island of Blood skaven super quick just a base coat and wash and they turned out solid for playing with. One 20 unit he washed Nuln oil and the other 20 unit washed Agrax Earthshade after base coating them the same way. They look good on the tabletop.

I primed / base coated the rats with Mournfang Brown, the citadel spray. Then applied Ratskin Brown to the flesh areas.

I'm always on board with skaven armies.
I'll warn you that painting a skaven army destroys a small part of your soul. Over the years, I've painted four full armies of rats. One more and I'll be an empty shell.

Before I continue with painting my ratty hordes, I wanted to do a couple test rats. Below are two of my lab rats, who volunteered to be fully painted! They are only slightly different, I think. So which do you guys like best? Lab Rat # 1 (triangle shield) or Lab Rat # 2 (round shield). The loser will be feed to the Rat Ogres...

I'm having trouble telling what color the rags are in Rat 1.

That's really not important. I'm more interested in the overall look. But perhaps the difference is too minor...
