The overall look is great to me, very similar to what I'm painting for Dan except for the eye color. It looks like I went a shade lighter on the skin as well. Your dirty look is right on. I'd prefer these with a black base rim but I also know your style is a bit different.

Thanks. I never understood the appeal of black rimmed bases, I prefer having a color.
Lab Rat# 1 (triangle shield) is darker overall, and so I think I'm going with that style. The photo does not show much difference.

+1 for a colored base rim (just maybe not goblin green...)
I don't see much of a difference between those two rats either. But, I would advocate against uniformity anyway. These are teetering masses of rats and I don't picture the warlords putting much effort into making sure their rags are the same color (...or their fur).

It's classic!

I actually prefer the two-tone on the head of the second rat. I would like to see some color on those bone spikes sticking through his club though. The first rat seems to have a bit brighter clothing (still kinda hard to tell from the pic). I think I like that color better. Looks kinda sickly. Disease ridden rat. Good job though!

Careful with brown bases on skaven. It can be too much with all the other earth tones.
Grey can be a good option

So which do you guys like best? Lab Rat # 1 (triangle shield) or Lab Rat # 2 (round shield). The loser will be feed to the Rat Ogres... As others have said I don't see much difference so can't really vote. Both look good to me and I could see them being in the same unit/army no problem.

Grey can be a good option ------Well, I did a good amount of "research" looking at a lot of Skaven armies, including internet, WD back issues (including Andy Chamber's classic Skaven army article), and the Skaven army books. My fav bases are the from the GW Skaven studio army featured in the 6th edition Skaven army book...their bases are a similar brown to what I've done. I actually like the notion of "too much" brown, I think that looks cool, and I'm not worried if colors get "lost"...

I like that army too. They use a lot of flesh tones, correct?

I don't mind brown based on Skaven... It kinda suits given they are filthy vermin I see them as coming up from dirty tunnels so the brown base is fitting imo.
