I am starting to mess around with my son's WoC army...and he doesn't have a BSB.
What have you sons of chaos done for BSB models? Was there ever an official one? Having a hard time finding one.

There have been a few limited edition ones over the years. Personally I've always either converted, or used third party models like this one from Myriad Miniatures:

I believe they released a named BSB in 6th edition but beyond that I'm not sure about any official models for one. Your best bet is to convert one yourself. Here are some suggestions just staying within GW's models for Warriors of Chaos: If you're looking to go Nurgle then the Putrid Blightking-kit makes an excellent source for a foot slogger, and if you prefer a mounted BSB you could instead look at the Pusgoyle Blightlords as a base. Granted the PBK-kit is also fully usable as the top half a mounted character and the Pusgoyle Blightlords are the same for the top half of an infantry model. Another candidate for a nurgly infantry BSB would be the Lord of Blights. He wouldn't even need any converting. Epidemius could be used as a BSB on a Palanquin. For Khorne the obvious pic if you want one on a Skullcrusher/Daemonic Mount would be to use the Skullcrusher standard bearer as a base. If you're instead looking for an infantry BSB you could consider making one from the Realmgore Ritualist, a Skullreaper, or the priestly one from the Gorechosen of Dromm-kit. The new Beastlord with a headswap would likely also make a cool beastial BSB. For Tzeentch you could go with what they now call Curseling,Eye of Tzeentch... or the Gaunt Summoner if you want a psuedo-DP vibe. Another option could be to go with the guy from The Jade Obelisk that's actually carrying around an obelisk. For Slaanesh you could use the model with the trident and the net from the Splintered Fang-kit as a decent base or or the big beefy boy from the Chaos Legionnaires. For a more generic/unmarked look you could always use some of the following as a base: For mounted either the Chaos Knights standard bearer, Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount, or Eternus. For foot slogger you could go with a Chosen as base, or just a Chaos Warrior. The Chaos Lord on Karkadrak could also be used as either a massive Daemonic Mount or as a count-as BSB on a chariot/Gorebeast Chariot. Edit: And just because I realised I kinda went away from your question, I myself used a PBK as a base for my infantry BSB and a Pusgoyle Blightlord as my daemonic mount-mounted BSB. Here's a picture of all my finished characters, including the two in question (second from the left and far right).

I like the idea of a slightly converted lord on Demonic steed. I appreciate it!

Kordel Shorgaar was a limited edition metal WoC BSB, released around the time of Storm of Magic - he was Archaon's personal banner bearer. The model is around on eBay, but usually expensive. It's a cool model and works just fine as a generic WoC BSB. Are you looking for an unmarked generic character, or a marked one? For a more readily available unmarked one, the easiest and most common option is to convert this 8th edition (still available) plastic Lord on foot to have a banner instead of the spear topper: I changed mine into a wizard instead, changing the spear top to a staff top, but changing him to a BSB would be trivial - just select a decent chaotic banner from a Chaos Warriors, Chaos Knights, plastic Chaos Chosen or even Beastmen unit, and plonk it where the spear head was. For a marked BSB, there used to be a couple of resin banner sets - Banners of Rage (Khorne) and Blasted Standards (Tzeentch) that were impressive looking unique banners to swap in. They're not available from GW anymore, but may be on ebay. You could just use the same model above, painted in appropriate red/blue/green/pink. For Khorne there was also a BSB in the old AoS launch box, still available in a "Start Collecting" box, and probably readily available separately on ebay too - it's the guy near the top left, with the chunkier banner: Most Warriors of Chaos BSBs tend to be footsloggers, but ones on a Chaos Steed or Daemonic Mount are decent too (though you lose "look out, sir!" on the latter if in a Knights unit). This current model could easily be converted into either, with a suitable banner: www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/slaves-to-darkness-chaos-lord-on-daemonic-mount-2023

Kordel seems to clock in around 100 bucks...no thanks lol. Bit the conversion on the horned lord and the mounted one could be pretty decent.

The Varanguard from AoS are also pretty easy to convert into a BSB on Daemonic Mount. Though they do come in a box of three and are pretty expensive.

I just wanted to chime in with my suggestion.
Pick a model you like, stick a brass rod or any other long pole-like implement on the base and attach the banner part (or make your own out of paper just like @altheras did with his beautiful pennant). My own BSB isn't actually carrying the banner, it's just on the same base. Models with a very "portrait" pose work particularly well for this.

But anything will work, I used a piece from a boardgame for my admittedly oversized BSB. In your case even a cool looking twig or small branch could do the trick.

Also, be sure to check the gauge/thickness of the brass rod you get, they can be very hard to cut without a jeweler's saw if too thick. For myself, I have several different lengths of steel rod that I use for banner poles. I ended up with them from my historical wargaming days so their lengths are roughly spear, lance, pike. I pick the size that suits the project and go with it. The nice thing about using the rods intended for historical weapons is that their width tends to nicely match that of a pin vice drill bit.
