*hisssss*, my friendssssss as I get older, I feel like my joints are starting to ache, and my face is beginning to feel gaunt.. like my flesh is starting to fall away, but my bones are strong? I'm also getting an overwhelming urge to buy a truckload of bags of sand & bury stuff in the garden. I also fancy a holiday to Egypt.. All of this craziness can mean only one thing.. I'm starting a tomb kings army 😮 Now I already have two armies in various states of glued-ness and painted-ness - Dwarfs and Empire. It felt only right that I have at least one 'evil' army to balance those up, and the re-release of TK gave me the perfect opportunity to pick up a starter box, which gives me the, ahem, bare-bones of an army, if you'll excuse the pun! I've decided that this army is going to be painted as fast as humanly possible, using the laziest painting tequniques known to man. I intend to essentially speed-paint the lot, chuck a bit of sand on the bases & call it done! Tonight was my first painting session. I've used the wonderful 'Green Stuff World' dipping ink 'Dusty Blue' on the shields, and Vallejo 'Glorious Gold' on the gold detail - all over a scar white undercoat, and I'm really pleased with the results so far: I'll keep you updated with progress - next task - find a suitable contrast paint for the skellies!

Awesome, speed paint projects can be the best! I firmly stand that quick n dirty paint schemes can lead to some of the best work. Especially with how quickly everything comes together! Post more so I can vicariously satisfy my urge to buy and paint Tomb Kings 😈

I've ordered green stuff world 'Papyrus' dipping ink which I'm hoping can be used for all the skeletons, but it might be a pinch too dark & a pinch too orange - we shall see!

All-over Agrax Earthshade once you've based in all the non-bone colours is the quickest way to do things. It works fine for bone over a white base, and is a fitting shade for anything else that's been drying in the desert for milennia (gold, wood, leather). You can then drybrush the bone with a white/off-white for a bit more contrast, but it's not strictly necessary.

sedge I wonder if Agrax would be too brown, and better for Vampire Counts skeletons that have lain in dank muddy graves - for Tomb Kings I'd have thought Seraphim Sepia would be better, for representing yellowed bone that has been preserved in desert sand for centuries.

Yeah that lighter bleached-bone look is the look I'm going for. If the Papyrus isn't any good, it looks like Citadel 'skeleton horde' might be a good shout too

Love a good blue and gold shield carried by skelies.

Love a good blue and gold shield carried by skelies. Thanks, the shields really do look the business... I finished painting the shields on a unit of 20 skellies & tried to take a better picture: They really do look much better in-person

Honestly... I really wish this English rain would go away... and bring sunshine... and heat... endless sunshine... to scorch the earth & soothe my aching bonesss... Now to business! I've given a unit of 20 skellies (and 2 horsemen) a once-over with the citadel 'skeleton horde' - literally the laziest painting job ye ever would see... scar white undercoat spray with the paint straight over. I'm fairly pleased with the initial results- they're perhaps a little flat, but nothing that a quick drybrush with bone white wouldn't sort I'd imagine... anyway, let me know what you think!

It does the job, and that's what you need with undead armies. With that drybrush, the bone should be excellent.

Update! My Green Stuff World Papyrus dipping ink arrived & it's just awesome! It's quicker & easier to apply than the citadel skeleton horde, and to my eye feels 'finer', meaning it settles nicer into the recesses. The finish is smooth & a little more yellow than the citadel, which is exactly the look I'm going for. Wish I'd waited & done all my minis in it now! For comparison, take a look at the shot below... citadel on the left, dipping ink on the right:

The dipping ink looks quality. You said it was quicker/easier than GW Skeleton horde. Did you literally dip the models, or still brush apply?
The side by side does imo make the Papyrus one look a smidge better and more yellow/dry bones.

No, brushed it on, but it goes on quicker & smoother than the GW version & in my honest provides a more even coverage... and you're correct, I feel like it provides a more 'classic' TK look... You also get a massive bottle of the GSW ink too...
