This really is the best thing ever. I feel like we could start a church based on Stillmania.

I'm all for reasonable WYSIWYG but I also have no interest in being the fun police for other gamers.
A former Rochester game store and GW employee had the most horrendous views on WYSIWYG that it forever turned me off to the subject.
It's also important to keep in mind that the game designers never intended for WFB to be a hardcore tournament system. GW even sold the halfling hot pot during 8th and suggested gamers use it as an empire mortar.
So, enjoy WH and don't worry about the rest of it.

I regularly used my other army as proxies when I trained with myself for the 6th edition Tournaments. But when I went to local shop or real Tournaments, WYSIWYG was strictly followed (may be because I was a regularly attendee of the Nottingham GW Grand Tournament and the folks there fanatically stamped down hard on proxies, which instilled a 'good' habit on me . Even now when I solo play, I do WYSIWYG if possible (plastic characters go full magnets) unless there are cooler models to replace the named one. For example, I detest the look of Halfling hotpot in my DoW army so Warlord Ceasarian Mangonel is going to get painted to prox the former. If I play with another guy, the only chance he can pull, for example, a horde of Empire swordmen as a horde of halberdier, is that they look decently painted. If they are just primed, then I pack my bag faster than he can utter 'Sigmardammerung'

Do you refuse to play against someone using a proxy?

Yep, like I said, if his proxies are just primed. That'll teach the lazy barsteward ๐

Must be nice to have a large enough pool of players to HAVE a choice who you play and who you don't.

It's the principle, Sir. Actually I would offer the poor lad my other army to play with, or at least a regiment of Renown for hire to replace the unpainted proxies. Warhammer is all about pageantry ๐

For me I guess WYSIWYG is kind of the point of it all... Of course there are degrees of WYSIWYG fundamentalism and I tend to think of magic items pretty much as abstractions, for example. I also rather play small games with everything painted than large games with unpainted units.

My opinion... I would play against an army of up to 50% proxies. Assuming they were all assembled, painted and reasonably close facsimiles of what they were to represent.
I would not play against an army of primed-only dudes.
I would play against an army of 8 well-painted units and 1 unit of primed-only dudes... once. If I went to play that army 3 months later and that same unit was still only just primed, I'd say NO. Bad Monkey. We will take the 3 hours that we were going to play a game and I am going to poke you with this stick while you base-coat dudes.

Lol, guess you won't be playing me anytime soon, yeah I don't have a completed full army. Not even everything is primed You're gonna have to poke me with a pitch fork to get me to undercoat lol

I've herd a bunch of guys say this but have yet to witness someone refusing to play bc of the opponent's army. It's a really weird thing. You start to get into the horrible slippery slope of refusing to play because your opponent's army isn't painted to the standard you've set in your own head.
