Having just discovered that a BSB can have a banner as well as his item allocation, I've had another look at the rules.
It appears that you can have more than one magic weapon & can have multiple Armour selections as long as they are different, eg a shield plus suit if Armour plus helmet.
Is this correct or am I way off base?

On page 337 of the Big Blue Book under Limitations & Uniqueness it states that "a model can only purchase one magic item from each category" with the six categories being listed on the previous page.
That being said, extremely common magical items can be purchased on a model even if it already has a magic item from the same category as per the instruction under the Extremely Common Magical Items-subheader on page 377.
I.e an orc warboss can be equipped with both the Dead 'Ard Armour and a Charmed Shield but not the Dead 'Ard Armour and the Spiteful Shield.
