Ok, first experiences of the Stormcast Eternals.
Our first battle with Stormcasts was the Defence of Alderfen from ET: Nagash. Valten and Huss are involontarily fighting alongside Vlad von Carstein's Undead to repel the Daemons of Nurgle flooding through a gap in the Auric Bastion. The Daemons had to hurry as the Auric Bastion was closing fast on their side of the table.
The Empire army included a single unit of Stormcasts.
You can barely see the Stormcasts for the claws of my Soulgrinder. Never fear though, the Stormcasts came out on top of this one with the help of a Halberier horde.
Next, they came up against a single Beast of Nurgle. They got stuck here, with neither side inflicting a single wound over several turns.
As for the rest of the battle, the Halberdier horde miraculously defeated a large unit of Beasts of Nurgle while the Undead flank crumbled under the weight of massed Plaguebearer ranks even as the Auric Bastion started to swallow up the rear echelons of the Daemon army. The Greater Daemon Gurug'Ath tried to get at Valten to end the battle once and for all, but as it closed in on the blacksmith, the Imperial gunners finally found their mark and a cannonball ended both the Daemon and the battle (rolling a 6 for number of wounds).
We then moved on to Death of a Traitor, which features Balthasar Gelt at the head of an Undead army trying to stop Valten from getting close to Karl Franz because Gelt is convinced that Valten is an assassin in disguise, but Valten is actually trying to get to the Emperor to protect him from the real assassin in the guise of Ar-Ulric. At the same time, Kurt Helborg is bent on killing Gelt, who's been branded a traitor.
Valten's force includes three units of Stormcasts. They were deployed to stop the Undead while Valten raced towards the objective.
The Reiksguard form a protective circle around the Emperor as the field erups in chaos. Where is the assassin?
The Liberators take on the Nightmare Legion while the Retributors tackle a unit of Ghouls with a Strigoi Ghoul King. They came very close to killing the Vampire in the first turn of combat, but only rolled 1s for their number of wounds and it survived. The Retributors fled while the Liberators destroyed the veteran Undead.
This battle was eventually won by the Undead when a Tomb Scorpion killed Valten.
My impression of the Stormcasts we tried was that they were very efficient against weak troops like skeletons while they struggled against tough targets. The Retributors were predictably lethal though and they were all pretty hard to kill in close combat. So far they haven't had to deal with much shooting though (facing only Daemons and Undead). They are pretty hard to deploy alongside Empire troops, who also require a lot of frontage. They are strong but hardly overpowered. I'd go so far as to say that they are just right for their points.
