Haha you've just described the way that I want to play Brets.
But that's a project for further down the line.
Just as a spoiler...there will be lots of historical miniatures.

Which is fine, IF Bret cavalry had a hope of actually managing to fight their way through the flanks of a COMPETENT opponent.
They don't.

and I REALLY want to be able to mix and match daemons, mortals, and beasts like you used to be able to do. As we discussed in this thread there are even official lists you can use to play a mixed chaos in 8th eefl.freeforums.net/thread/275/skaven-beastmen-8th

Here's my biggest issue with T9A: There is so much concern over the balance that they toned down everything strong and buffed up everything weak. The result? Boringness. Killing the identities of the armies. They had to run polls on their website asking players to vote on what the armies should "feel" like, because none of the armies felt right anymore. Everything is too vanilla. They are falling into the trap of creating BETTER SAMENESS (a term I love that is used in business). Instead of the armies having awesome and interesting uniquenesses, they are all becoming too similar...all in the name of 'competitive balance.' @ryrak - I'm sending positive vibes to your group. Play WARHAMMER, not T9A

The worst thing about those polls is how constantly they get ignored, especially Bretonnia/KoE's poll. After a dozen polls we finally got the bandit upgrade for a little flavor we asked for and it was immediately ripped away in 1.3. My best wishes for 9th age but boy what a headache it could be at times.

Asides from all these very relevant issues, my other gripe with the 9th age is that the fluff is just horrible. That would be a dumb world to vision your favorite minis to fight over.

I think most 9th agers just keep fighting in the Old World anyway.

9th age is a lovely idea (continuing WFB in a fan made manner) and has been done in a very professional manner. Unfortunately from my perspective is has gone down a completely different road to how I want to play the game. When you add in the unofficial-ness (ie lack of lovely hardbacked books/fluff etc) it really has 0 appeal to me above 8th edition.

I think ninth age does a great job with their core game. They've gone out of their way to explain the rules and include lots of diagrams of scenarios of common rule blunders and misconceptions.
Where I think it falls apart are the army books.
Others have done a great job of explaining why I think the army books...well suck really. They've tried so hard to make the game balanced that the armies don't feel unique (or fun) anymore. And they've butchered the stats of my chaos warriors and in their quest to make the game "anti-deathstar" they've capped the unit sizes of all my units too small. But I feel this translates to most other armies too. What if I want to field a unit of 120 slaves for lolz?
Don't get me started on the tripe that they're feeding us and calling it "magic".

Tell me about it.
And just try and complain on their forum; you get mobbed by fanboys who love balance over flavor, and the rules team just ignores you outright.
I was very active there once, going back to the days when they started on The Warhammer Forum. But starting with 1.2 they just lost their minds and decided they were going to make "NotHammer" and discard all vestiges of Warhammer. That's not the game I want to play. I want to play Warhammer, or at least "NextHammer"

Agreed Nexthammer was the hope for most.
It brings up an interesting question. Would the EEFL folks be interested in developing a suggested comp set for 8th edition tournaments. Probably would NOT suggest starting from scratch but look at some of the past systems.
I know Rich had floated the idea of an 8th tournament at Da Boyz this year. I'm also starting to think about maybe a campaign weekend and a tournament track option for 8th this year (or maybe 9th.)

Good grief what a boring thread. People threatening revolt over female models NOT having boobplates? Is this what the hobby has come to? I REALLY hope GW starts fantasy back up to stick it to the folks over there...
