My local gaming group is looking at moving to 9th age. It's a sad day as I feel that it really doesn't offer us anything new, but the "perceived balance" is causing one of our players to really want to move to it. (he plays brets)
Sucks as I just bought the entire set of end-times books for $150. Worth it but I was hoping to use some of the lists in there.
I'm gonna keep pushing that we stay with 8th edition though.

We haven't gotten together since I've found this forum...well...they have but I was unable to go as I was out of state on vacation. Next weekend I'll have a chance to change their minds (in person, I've only mentioned/talked about this over messenger).
I'm planning to print out the Bretonnian list and bring it, as I feel it's a great creation.
Hopefully I can convince them to stay with 8th.

If he doesn't like the old Bret book then move to the new one we have! Coming from a Bret player it is a very solid list and extremely fun! If not then maybe he should get a better army!

Find a way to keep them playing _anything_ and keep playing with them they may flex back when they have had enough 9th games under their belt. Some folks like it but many also find out the grass isn't greener. The important thing is to keep the gaming group active. If they are staying with a square base game it's easier to flex back to 8th later.

I actually REALLY like what they've done with Beastmen; adding totems, beast axes, and soothsayer staffs back into the mix is really cool and fluffy. Wish though that they would allow marks; and I REALLY want to be able to mix and match daemons, mortals, and beasts like you used to be able to do.
They took away the beast banner, it's now a one-use item but it can be given to the unit standard if he's made a veteran standard bearer, freeing up the bsb to take nothing but kit with his magic item allotment. All heroes have 3W now which is nice.
I'm playing a 6000 point game of ninth-age Saturday, which is damn near everything I have, so we'll see how it goes.

No one!!
He really wants to run a Bret list with the King and the Fay enchantress and that's only possible with 8th.
Neither of us like the new magic in 9th age. We just talked about it a little while ago we'll probably adopt some kind of hybrid 8th/9th system, taking what we like from 9th (lost focus is nice, the wizard can continue to cast after he botches a spell he just can't add any modifiers) and integrating it into 8th magic. 9th lores are a bit lame.
9th edition is REALLY starting to feel like it's own game now. They're departing from 8th and adding/subtracting a lot of stuff to give 9th age it's own feel. How they've handled magic really brings this to light.
To be honest to hear him gripe I don't think he likes 9th that much, I just think he really wants his Brets to be better.
I shared with him the Bret list from this forum on google drive today hopefully he'll like it and want to use it in 8th.

Yeah, Brets in T9A suck moose. They're a cavalry-dependent army (in their fluff, anyway)... who have the suckiest cavalry in the game. Empire, Dark Elves, High Elves, Chaos Warriors, heck even Lizzies have better cav point-for-point.
You're basically forced into taking hordes of Men-At-Arms, and hoping the few cavalry you can afford can fight their way through the flanks in time to save them.
