I know we all love 8th so very much, rules & mechanics wise, but... I feel like each core boxed set for WFB was just amazing. What was your favorite?
IMHO, each had great miniatures, great value, some fun extras, nice books. Heck, I still almost always prefer a smaller core rulebook over the 600 page BRB. Although I would take the BRB as a weapon over the undersized paperback. If that's anything.

So I voted for Bretonnians // Lizardmen.
I now have 6+ WFB armies - Yet none of them are Bretonnians and none are Lizardmen. Why? I lurved this boxed set. Both armies were brand spankin' new at the time. Great minis. Some of the first (and best) modular plastics at the time.

I voted for the Island of Blood one, although I don't own it (I have a few bits and pieces from eBay) the miniatures and variety are top class for a starter. The only box set I own is the 4th High Elf goblin one.

I've certainly got the most use out of the 8th edition one. Almost my entire core of skaven (I have over 300 clanrats/slaves) have come from the IoB.
They're also some of the prettiest snap/push together models out there.
I almost picked the 7th one though as it came with some pretty awesome terrain and it was a great way to get playing night goblins (sold all mine off unfortunately; and the dwarves)

I own one and may start the other down the road.

I voted for the 6th edition Empire/Orcs one because that's where it all started for me.

I bought the elf one when I started 8th but my love of Bretonnia and the glorious art and models of the past made me pick the Breton vs lizardmen box even though I could never get it at that point.

8th because I split 2 boxes with a friend and that's how I started my high elves.

THE BEST! And anyone who says otherwise is WRONG! hmm ..8th Edition for me for the High Elves and 7th for the Night Goblins. Combine those 2 sets with those armies and you would have my answer. As for what KevinC posted that was/in my favourite cover art for any starter set ever, by far. It's what got me into Warhammer.

THE BEST! And anyone who says otherwise is WRONG! Yeah because you got those great cardboard cutouts to play with I used the house from this edition to make an improved scenery piece from. I wanted to do a tower too but I can't find it

I voted for The Battle for Skull Pass (Dwarf/Goblin). Although, that is probably more to do with nostalgia than anything else. That's the starter box which ushered me into Warhammer Fantasy.

6th edition, with the big rulebook full of awesome artworks and fluff, a building Mordheim style, orcs and puff and slash empire

Had to go with Brets and Lizards, as that was the box that got me into the game (took the plunge once it was released) and Brets have been one of my favorites to this day. The 8th box does have some great minis, so that was a close second.
