The Game:
I rolled Miasma and Pit of Shades for my spells. I completely forgot that a Chaos Familliar gives you a third spell so...screwed myself there. Oh well.
He rolled:
Big Magic-foot of gork. something else but he never tried casting it
little magic-the minus d6 M and I spell, and the soft cover dangerous terrain if you are in base contact with the caster/casters unit spell
OnG Turn 1:
Boar Boyz fail animosity. Everyone else passed.
Night Goblin spears move up and release a fanatic at the Marauders. Mangler Squig also moves up. The fanatic positioning ended up being a big deal as I couldn't charge the mangler without taking 2D6 S5 hits from the fanatic.
Here's what my right flank looked like after all his movement. NG archer horde arrives from reserve and is put on my right flank (as I expected)
In his magic phase the knights miss being squished by a foot of gork. They do have their M and I reduced by 1 though. I also let the soft cover spell go off.
You can't tell from the glare but we made a foot of gork template from a couple sticky notes. The irresistable force puts a S6 hit on both his wizards. The orc is untouched but the goblin takes a wound.
Chaos Turn 1:
A unit of dogs declares a charge against the mangler squig. They come within 8" of the night goblins who have their fanatics released (I was WORRIED). One fanatic makes contact with the dogs and kills 2. They make their panic check (outside of generals range so LD5; I was REALLY worried) the casualties allowed me to avoid the second fanatic and make contact with the mangler. 3D6 S6 hits later the mangler and the dogs are dead.
I line everything up and prepare to charge next turn. I've positioned everyone so he needs to roll higher than average for all his charge ranges in order to make contact with me
I made a mistake here. I stopped focusing on the mangler and instead moved up the horsemen to deal with the goblins and the bolt throwers (this would later cost me dearly) I moved the dogs to intercept the mangler
OnG Turn 2:
Everyone passes animosity
Boar Boyz successfully charge the Chaos Knights
Night Goblin spears release the last fanatic. I make my saves and it kills nothing (6+/6++ FTW!)
I don't have pictures for the following:
Mangler Squig kills the dogs and goes wild!
His magic sees my knights having their M and I reduced by 4. His goblin kills himself from a wound he takes from a poisoned mushroom. He unsuccessfully tries to stomp my knights.
His poisoned shooting puts 2 wounds on the Chimera.
During the Combat phase he fails a fear test. My knight unit champ challenges his boar boy. He goes first and puts a wound on me but I save it. I go next and put 3 wounds on him but he saves them all! (3 5+ saves made! It was pretty cool) I end up killing 4 boyz and he kills 1 knight. He loses combat but holds.
Chaos Turn 2: Where things get Awesome
My giant declares a charge against the Orc Boyz with the Black Orc general. They fail their Terror and flee! The Giant then redirects into the goblins in the center, who also fail their Terror test and flee! This makes for a failed charge for both the Giant and the chaos warriors who were trying to go after the goblins. Marauder horsemen charge the goblin spears in both the front and the flank. Chimera charges the goblin archer horde. Takes no wounds (yay 4+/4++) from overwatch.
Magic sees me get off a Miasma on his knights. We're now going at the same time and he's hitting me on 5's regardless of a fear test or not. Pit of Shades is dispelled.
Combat sees the Marauders finish off these night goblins. However I must pursue through the fanatic and one unit of horsemen are killed.
I only won this combat because of the horsies. This is the TO WOUND roll for the horsies against the goblins. I think he passed one save.
I don't have pics but the knights kill another 4 Boar boyz for no wounds in return. They get away when they flee the combat. Challenge yields no results as 2 attacks of mine miss and the one that connects doesn't wound. Both his attacks miss. Mounts do nothing.
Chimera does some stuff and kills a few for no wounds. The theme for this combat will be him successfully passing his terror then fear check every round thanks to the bsb despite being only ld6. To be fair I think he only needed the reroll once. I would barely cause enough wounds to win the combat (thunderstomp ftw here) and would save any damage he put on me (maybe 3 wounds over the course of the combat)
OnG turn 3
General and his boyz rally. Fleeing night goblins continue to run
Black Orcs charge the warriors. Also the mangler squig manages somehow to contact both my giant and the unit of Black Orcs. It kills the giant and also kills 4 Black Orcs.
No pics but in his magic phase he manages to stomp 2 knights with a foot. He then rolls low and the spell fails to continue.
Combat sees me kill around 3 black orcs for 1 or 2 Chaos warriors. One of these was in a challenge and guess what I roll? Apotheosis! That's right, if I had had a Daemon Prince model he now would have had a Daemon Prince bsb running around his lines. Alas I had no model so we just treated it as if I had failed the LD test and I get +1LD and stubborn instead.
I end up breaking him in combat and running him down but I end up pursuing into a mangler squig. 3D6 S6 hits later and my Chaos Warriors now only number 15.
Chaos Turn 3:
Knights charge into combat with the goblins. The wound on my sorcerer is from a miscast I suffered earlier in the game. The 6 on the 2 dice are from my eye of the gods on the sorcerer when I kill the unit champ. +1WS if memory serves
Magic Phase
Nothing happened. I rolled a 3 and tried to get off a miasma but rolled so low with those 3 dice that he was easily able to dispel it with 2 dice.
Combat sees me getting +1WS for my sorcerer in a challenge and finally breaking the night goblins. They get away but flee off the table (he rolled a 9 and both of my units rolled a 7 despite having swiftstride)
He calls the game here.
