Hi Im interested in where to begin with 1500 points W.E. Coming back to the game after 10 years and mainly painting before. Im now old enough to ebay missing units so there is no real restriction on what to get. Im thinking ill start somewhere with 1 Spellweaver as general lvl 4 with Life, Longbowm Talisman of Preservation and Dispel Scroll 2x10 Glade Guard SB, musician - hagbaine tips 12x Dryads with Bransch Nymph 5 Wild riders, shields, SB, musician, champion 10 Wildwood rangers, musician and SB 3 Tree Kin 10 Waywatchers --- Right Now 1427 Points Im mainly going to play my friends and its more about having a good time. But I am a sore looser so don't want to loose every time

I'm also no expect as the last time I regularly played WE was back in 4/5th ed. but we can give some general help. Myself I don't like tailoring and prefer all comers lists but do you know what armies your friends are likely to field? That could influence your initial choices.
My first thought is the rangers unit seems pretty small for a combat unit. With their 6+ save it wouldn't take much shooting to remove them. I'll admit that I'm used to 2500pt games so this size might be reasonable or you might deliberately be going for an MSU style list.
What were your thoughts on how the units on the list would operate together or did you pick it based on units you liked the look of (which is also perfectly acceptable!)

I think they run, skaven, bretonia and lizardmen. For the rangers no real thought then that I open and assembled a unit and think it was around 10, but have an other unopend pack so i can add more, but thought about making eternal gurd with the other pack. But maybe more ranks of rangers is better. Don't have mutch of an ide of the list. Thought about luring in the middle and heavy shooting around as my i dont have a clue strategy Dont want to cut archers though as I just ...hm.... like them

To be honest a lvl4 seems like overkill and not necessary at 1500 points. I'd consider a lvl2 and using the freed up points on more archers or something. If you're dead set on keeping the lord level mage then maybe drop it to a lvl3 and spend the 35 points elsewhere? I also don't know if you need a dispel scroll at 1500. You've invested heavily in magic for a 1500 point game; where you're most likely to only see lvl2 wizards.
Beyond that I can't comment as Wood Elves are one of the armies that I'm just not familiar with.

I would hate to move my precious lightly armored infantry into these firing squads . The guerrilla nature of the Wood Elves army makes it very strong at lower level battles indeed.

Minimini Battlereport against skaven. Many ranks of small rats were hard to beat. Wild riders did good wildwood rangers barley a Scratch.

If your going to take life then its a default level 4. Any other lore you can get away with a lesser mage and that's really down to the throne of vines. Sure you can do without it but it makes the other spells so much better. A level 4 maximises your chances of getting it.
My Wood Elves are really old, archers and glade riders make up their numbers with a few wardancers. I don't play them often and if I do its a shoot, avoid and jump from wood to wood zapping things with death magic

Skaven won big. He had storm banner for 4 of my turns so my shooting did nearly nothing. My treekins slayed 0 before running on bad first rolls and missed stomping rule. Rangers total crap. Think they slayed 1 clan rat before 50% died in the return and then fleed and were overrun. Probebly missed alot of rules and trix as it was my first real game I met 3 times 5xALOTof rows of clan rats and one as big with slaves. One machine gun and one annhaliation and 2 mages and a bsb. It was great fun but big loss. Wild Riders were awesome.

I have used the Storm banner thrice and each time it shuts down in the next turn. Hate the blasted rag. I had a game with skaven vs empire in which the first 18 casulaties were self-inflicted, Wood Elves are more stable at least. Good luck with your next game!

If it makes you feel better no other army can shut down your shooting in quite that way. Dirty dirty rat men. You were super unlucky with the treekin, did you remember the fear rule? Always make the skaven test if you remember. (i still always forget about fear) The rangers deserve another go. Again you were unusually lucky with them. It's a bit hard for them with the massive skaven numbers but they should kill a lot of rats. On the to wound roll they kill toughness 3 skaven on a 2+ if I recall. Their failure to kill more than 1 clanrat in your battle would bring great shame to the forest Goodluck for next time
