I am sure many of you have already seen this but I was just browsing around and figured I would share this link. It is the new 40k boxed starter set. I don't play 40k any more and don't plan to start again but I will say the quality of these miniatures appears to be phenomenal especially for a starter set. www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Warhammer-40000-dark-imperium-eng-2017

Those Pox Walkers look quite good, could almost be used as Forsaken but perhaps lacking some armour. The Nurgle stuff all looks pretty good, I am not really into marines they are all a bit vanilla for my tastes (not that I play 40k)

I received the rule book and chaos index for Fathers Day (could be best fathers day gift ever for me!) I haven't played 40K for something like 13 years but this new rules set has me intrigued. Lots of changes that seem to make it easier to get into. Rules seem straightforward and well designed.
I'm going to be rebasing my Daemons for AoS / 40K play (I've got 3-4 other square base fantasy armies) so I've got a very low bar to cross to get into playing the system. And I've got a 27 year old Marine army that I could try out as well.

I'll play any game I can find a game for. Having finished reading through the rules for 40K I really like what they have done. I hope AoS 2nd ed includes many of these changes. One of the things I really like about GW over the last two years with AoS and 40K is an explicit recognition in the rules of the importance of Narrative Play (lets reenact a cool historical battle or neat idea I have for a scenario), Open Play (lets just drop toys on the table until we are happy with what we have) and Matched Play (highly points balanced tournament style gaming.) The Generals Handbook for AoS and the new 40K book both have significant sections dealing with each of those gaming modes with suggestions for making it happen. Even with Matched Play in 40K they give a number of options to 'balance' your games and don't assume points as written are the only way folks will want to do this. They go with points as written by and large but recognize there are lots of options. The problem with 'points' based systems in highly complex wargames is all that math makes us think we've got a high degree of accuracy when it must means we have a high degree of nuance with no assurance of accuracy (beastmen in 8th vs Dark elves for example at the same points value.)

Played my first four games over the last ten days or so. Really like this new 40K. Fun straightforward but tactically challenging. Easy to pick up.
I'd recommend giving it a try.

So let's say I'm also pulled to the Dark side, which army do you guys suggest? I want the least models as possible.

Well for me the easiest thing was just using my fantasy Daemons. Nothing to paint or buy! At a 2K tournemant I went to someone fielded three knight titans as their army I believe. The rules allow a lot of flexibility in list creation. Armies that fill kore of a force org. chart are likely better for a variety of reasons but could go very low model count.

Nah, I would rather paint several hundred gits than a titan. Probably start a Custodes force just for the giggle with the coming kiddos.

chuckjerry and I just played 500 and 750 point games. I used my Crimson Fist marines against his newfangled Nurgle marines. I found the rules nice and fun. I also saw some elements of AoS in there such as a battle shock test thing at the end of the turn.

I reckon it's the best 40k box set GW have done.
The including the hardback rulebook puts it above the others imo.
By GW standards the new starter 40k set is a good deal.
