What's with the prices on eBay? I used to buy tons from eBay and got quite a few great deals off it. I just checked it out again after going through about a 2-year hiatus of buying (kids were born) because my friends are looking to expand their armies and maybe start a few more. I was appalled by the exorbitant pricing! So I thought, well, maybe Bretonnia since there is absolutely no support for them anywhere now. They were the worst! Single models (not even the good ones) going for $50-$60 and entire (moderately sized) armies going for $1000 or more! What the heck?!? Surely there isn't THAT much interest in them?

Yep it's definitely gotten worse. On that note, GW have just taken down almost all the old Dwarf range, so grab anything you want from your flags asap (or check out mom Miniatures for some alternatives.

There's a number of people selling Bretonnian stuff on E-bay thinking that since it's OOP, it's now a collectors item and they should charge accordingly.
And then it just sits there for months. I've been watching the same overpriced stuff relisted over and over and over and over again ever since AoS dropped. And they refuse to drop their prices.
But if you watch carefully, you'll see other sellers post stuff with much more reasonable prices. THAT stuff is never relisted, as it always goes on the first auction.
What I'm saying is there's a number of IDIOTS thinking we're dumb enough to pay ridiculous prices for official GW Bretonnian stuff, when we can get stuff Perry Brothers or a dozen other historical mini companies that's every bit as good, if not quite in the GW 'aesthetic'.

It seems to me that the overall quantity of warhammer on ebay dropped down. For example my favorite search "warhammer empire -tau" used to give a few hundred hits, now it barely above 100. I don't think it's because it gets listed instead as 'free people' or whatever the AoS name is. Just less interest I suppose? same is true for 'warhammer ogre'. anybody else noticed that?
regarding wonky prices. yes, some people live in lala land. always check for what items actually get sold.

I remember seeing the Tomb King Warsphinx on there for around £70, it was still available from GW direct at the time for £35 so you've got to look about. I tend to make a lot more offers nowadays, put the pressure back on the seller.

The prices on ebay have definitely become very inflated. For anything OOP like Tomb Kings, Brets & the missing Empire models they have become super retarded. In the last year since I purchased the bulk of my Chaos Dwarfs, if I cashed in now I would make a tidy profit. It seems even the already OOP stuff is becoming increasingly inflated. Just need to find another 5 Hobgoblin Wolfriders... Tbh if/when I ever get around to putting together any of the OOP armies I will probably just go to recasters rather than ebay because I can't see the problem getting any better But if you watch carefully, you'll see other sellers post stuff with much more reasonable prices. THAT stuff is never relisted, as it always goes on the first auction. It still doesn't go cheap though does it

Yeah, I saw that too. Some of the stuff that was listed was just "average" at best, but the majority of the items were simply terribly used, missing parts, or so completely useless in building an army that I got depressed just looking at all of it!
I think that overall, there is simply less interest. The majority of people playing AoS, probably already have big Empire armies (if they are going to play Empire - which I don't see how they'd fair very well in a game like that) or just don't have to buy very many models anymore so it doesn't cost them that much to buy new. I know if I was in that position, I'd buy new too instead of wrestling with second hand eBay trash.

I love badly painted metal on ebay, I just picked up a metal Dragon Ogre Shaggoth for £10. Plastic & resin is less appealing because it is a little more difficult to strip.
I think the drop is due to less of it being available and simple supply/demand like mottdon says. The Knights are obviously super inflated because they aren't available. The standard swordsmen/state troops have calmed down a bit after the reboxing but I think the kids are too busy churning and burning through the new stuff to bother with simple old Empire state troops

I have a few ebay searches that pop up in my inbox every day. For the most part I've noticed that people want exorbitantly high prices for their goods, but those never get bid on.
To be honest though I'm one of those willing to pay slightly higher prices if it means I'm getting what I want. I'm not talking about those ridiculous $400 for an unopened battalion nonsense, but I managed to pick up a nice, non-painted Dark Elves force that was almost completely unpainted for a good price.
My secret? If it's been up a while message the seller with an offer. Worse case you wait and you move on (something you would have done anyway) but best case they accept or counter with something more reasonable then what they're asking.
Throughout the years I've won a lot of ebay auctions that way.

It is even more tempting for the seller if you offer to buy multiple items at x price (I still got robbed)

Not a bad bit of info there. I'll have to remember that if I am tempted to get anything in the future.

I've never paid more than GW's (granted, overinflated) price, and usually sneak in under that price. There just aren't that many people out there willing to pay 'collector item' prices for GW minis. Once it starts approaching GW price, interest wanes fast.

I agree the eBay quality has gone down.
As 2 of my armies are Tomb Kings and Chaos Dwarfs I have noticed the available selection at decent prices drop considerably..... must be Horace stealing all my metal chaos dwarfs 😁.
For where I live, the eBay item prices don't seem to have changed that much but the number of sellers attempting to rip down Under buyers off with exhorbitant postage charges causing the total price to go up has hugely increased in my browsing.

Once it starts approaching GW price, interest wanes fast. I guess my definition of cheap (for OOP armies like Empire/Brets/TK) is around RRP for anything unpainted and something slightly lower for painted. A quick glance through the Sold listings is the way I usually gauge prices. For example the last 5 plastic Tomb Guard auctions (for 10) have gone at £61, £25, £57, £40 & £50. I would class those as not cheap. I think Brets are in a similar position. I know my brother was having difficulty picking up Empire Knights at non-stupid prices. They are two of the toughest armies to buy for, I have only really been after the Hobgoblins for the last while I have already bought the rest I have noticed that the rest of the big hats prices have really sky rocketed though. Bull Centaurs for example I was buying at £8-12 each, they are now going for significantly more. A scan through the sold listings have them at somewhere between £14-20+. Anything Hobgoblin is a nightmare. The Blunders & Axemen have gone up too

The ultimate trick to getting good deals on E-bay is patience. If you put yourself on any sort of time limit you'll get taken to the cleaners.
If you're in a hurry, it's better to just buy new from another company unless you ABSOLUTELY have to have GW Official Stuff.
