So, I can't quite remember exactly, but I think that in the 7th edition Wood Elf army book you could take a unit of up to 3 Unicorns. I definitely remember reading that somewhere.
My question is, now that it's not written in the 8th edition rule book, how cheesy/stupid/just plain wrong, would it be for me to include a unit of these guys as a monsterous cavalry unit? And would you keep the points the same?
I'll try to find it in the rule book when I get home and scan in a copy for review here.
After knoffles pointing out that under 8th edition rules, Unicorns should be on square mons. cav. bases, it got me thinking.
Even if it's a sub-optimal unit, I like having options to play differently.
And while we're at it, heck, let's extend this to other unit that have been lost to previous editions like the Empire's War Wagon. Do you still consider it a viable option to take in your games? (I only play friendly games so being tournament-legal doesn't matter to me. Only what's considered "fair".)

Could you have read it in the Storm of Magic book? Aren't they one of the monsters you can bind to your army?
I would say go for it if your opponent is cool with it.
And to my knowledge the unicorn has always been on a 50x50. I think the 25x50 is WAY old school. Id be fine with either one personally as long as it "was what the model came with".

I don't think I've ever seen units of unicorns in a game of warhammer...they do seem to be quite rare and solitary. But, whatever floats your boat. Ryrak made a good suggestion, check out the Storm of Magic monsters, find something somewhat similar and get a feel for points and pricing. I wouldn't be overly concerned tough, one home brew unit in a regular size army will not break the game.

Maybe it was SoM. I'll check in either case and scan in whatever I find tonight. It's really bugging me. I know I bought three of them just so that I could run them as a unit around 7 years ago. (Also to give my wife something to paint and maybe entice her to start gaming with me. She painted one and that was it. Oh well. ) They came on standard Cav bases - so whatever.

I don't recall units of Unicorns and I have been around since 3rd edition. My unicorn was indeed sold on a 25 x 50.

Unicorns are indeed in Storm of Magic. In fact there are two types, a war beast style and a monstrous beast size.

And...that would also explain the different base size! So...both sizes are correct!

Yup. So it WAS in the SoM book that I saw it!
