Is there any better levels of point limits? Here we run 1500 and thinking about going up to 2000. But think we dont have time to finish higher point games.
I never played competivly, what used to be the point limits in tourneys, and why?

typically 2500 (or 2400 in places where people have a hard time dividing 100 by 4).

If time is an issue I would stick to 1500-2500. We can just about get through a 2000 point game in 4 hours (the time between my kids going to bed and midnight). I personally like 2500-3000 point games but I rarely have the time for such things these days

Yeah, I usually play 2500 pt games. They typically take about 4 hours to play, but that's after everything is set up, so approximately 5 hours.
The reason I like 2500 points is because you can simply fit more fun "toys" into a game that size. Smaller games start becoming a "one trick pony" army, whereas in 2500 point games you can lose a major model (Ancient Treeman) and still manage to pull out a win because of all the other units on the board.

I absolutely LOVE 3000 point games; plenty of points to take everything you want to in a single game. When I was in college this was the point level my friend and I played and we got to where we could play a 3000 point game in about 3.5 hours.
Around here though 2000 is our standard size and they only take us about 2-3 hours to play (ignoring set up and pre-game time).

We usually play 2400 so that you can use some lord characters. Usually no lvl 3 or 4 so that Grimgor or Karl Franz can make a visit. That usually takes us between 4 and 6 hours so I guess we're slow Last game ended at 04:00 and I live a hour away from my opponent...the bastard

2400 was common. But bottom line play a points value that makes for a fun game. An 8 hour game doesn't sound like fun to me unless you can devote a day to it!\ Smaller games are still loads of fun and provide different challenges. The EEFL tourney at Da Boyz this year is an escalation event starting at 750 which I think will be great.
Tournament play was very good for learning to play inside a time limit.
Note things you can do to reduce the time for a game include magnetized movement trays that go right from box to tabeltop with all minis attached. That was a huge time saver for me.

Is there some where I can read an example of "normal" tourney rules?

2400 points was typical in the UK when the tournament scene running, 2500 went after that - so some dirty little so and so could get another combo in no doubt. I can see how that works as I get a tooled up Slann and an Old blood on dino in right now.
A lot of it depends on your speed of play, i'm trying to remember but two and a half hours for a 2400 point game seems to be right.
Just cound an old tournament PDF, 2.15hrs
This of course relys on each player knowing the rules and his own list abilities but does also include settig up. I played a 2400 point game last night (Dwarf vs Bret) we'd set up by 20:30 club kinda shuts at midnight and there's a lot of chatting with mates but I'd packed away by 22:00

I think you can find the ETC 2014 Warhammer fantasy packet on google still. In fact I am sure you can. ETC by the end of 8th was one of the more popular tournament formats worldwide. I didn't love it but in some parts of the world it wa standard.

Warhammer.org still has active links to loads of packs (I know as trawled through the thread list to download them as a guide for our club comp). I'll add a load to Dropbox in a bit for you. There is still a regular 8th comp held at hockley (wayland games) in Essex (U.K.) that a number of our club attend. It's about halfway between where I live and gregwarhamsters.

strutsagget - Find below a link to a dropbox folder. www.dropbox.com/sh/4t5q0yj969aff6d/AABmP1Zqls_qJyB2ZzgrdPW5a?dl=0In it is a number of different comp packs. Mainly UK, including the South Coast GT (one of the largest over here run by Helanhammer) but also some from the US (incl quite a few years for the Bugeater GT). Note: Some of the older packs predate army book releases so restrictions are based on the 7th ed. books. Some of the newer packs allow end of times bits. frozenfood - some of them have extra points for Beastmen I've also included a few years of my own club's pack (SELWG) incl. this years pack I put together and the alternative 8th ed. terrain table we use. There is also a document called: Independent WFB FAQ document v1.4. This is/was used by quite a few of the UK comp's as a non official clarification of some of the 8th ed. rules )or incorporated into their packs). Finally I also included a document I found that gives 'standard' base sizes for all the units/characters across all armies. It isn't 100% as it includes base sizes for warmachines etc. but is a good guide for normal units/mounts etc.
