Well I have experience in that I did the balsa wood/thatching pimping job on the old cardboard cut-out houses that came with the 4th edition starter. It is basically the same principle of pretty-ing up a basic frame. Super easy to do ... Looks great, have you used it any mutch, regarding earlier posts durability. Where did you find windows, chimney, doors or did you make em yourself?

I love these. I have built a few (never this good).
I must say... both IRL and with regards to model scenery: I HATE ROOF SHINGLES. BLAH! Worst part of buildings like this, hands down.
The cutting. The placement. The dry brushing. So time consuming. But, it's a part of this hobby that I love. So I do it.

Where did you find windows, chimney, doors or did you make em yourself? A lot of it is from the GW plastic buildings. Those sprues come with quite a bit of extra stuff. (not the door though, that looks like Horace made it out of love and balsa wood).

Nor the windows, if I'm not mistaken. How'd you do those, Horace? Score a piece of card stock? Also, nice work on the hinges and lock on the door!

Cheers mottdon the walls were Ivanden Darksun, washed, then drybrushed Ivanden again, then drybrushed Ushabti Bone. The wood was probably Mournfang Brown, washed, Mournfang brown again, then XV-88 highlights. (I really like XV-88, use it for loads of stuff) strutsagget . The windows I just built the frame around the windows already on the building with balsa wood. The windows already there were quite nice with a slightly glossy finish so I figured they would work ok as long as I kept them clean. The door was just made out of balsa wood & plasticard, nothing fancy. The chimney base was just built from plasticard with some balsa wood stuck on it, then the stack on top was some left over bits I had from the Fortified Mansion kit (shame they don't still do this, it was excellent) We have used it plenty, it is mounted on a thick-ish plasticard base so is fairly rigid. It also doesn't really get abused that much because things can't really go on top of it etc wilsonthenarc haha they aren't that bad Naitsabes Correct on all counts If I had to do the windows from scratch I guess I would have painted them on, then maybe stuck a bit acetate film on or something to make them look window-y. It really wasn't difficult to make, just a night of cutting bits of balsa wood and plasticard into thin strips, and a night of shingling the roof

If full plastic how do you cut them?

If full plastic how do you cut them? No it is just thin plastic sheets. I use either some scissors or a knife depending on the thickness

So I have decided to start with buying some houses from tabletop-world.com/ and my friend did the same I do not give up on doing myself. Just keep that for the future when finished with my armies ... that keeps growing.

I was down at my folks at the weekend, rummaging around the Warhammer stuff I have stored there (still trying to catalogue everything I own) when I opened a chest of drawers in the tack room and found a full drawer of 4th/5th buildings. I thought this was the best thread to share them. So for a trip down memory lane... P.S. one of them was scratch build, definitely from cereal boxes and probably following instructions from a WD.

wow, they are in good shape. must have been a sturdy box they staid in for the last twenty years. I quite like the two dwarf buildings (the blue roof ones), too bad I've never seen them in the flesh. From a campaign pack as far as I remember.

Just throwed away a trashed tower I found in a mordheim box the mordenheim sprues people wanted though

I think it was Grudge of Drong but might have been from a WD. They were just sitting in a chest of drawers on a room off my parents garage. The towers were from the 4th and 5th ed. boxes as were at least one of the houses.

Sweet buildings, guys! For gaming at home I just use Dave Graffam's pdfs. For example this (free) one:

It was indeed the Grudge of Drong, quite a fun linked campaign which can easily be ported to 8th Great find with all those buildings, some of them you can pretty up quite easily and they will look awesome. The Dwarf Brewhouse I kind of have, I have a copy of the building printouts for the scenario packs so I printed it out, stuck it to some card, cut it out and whacked it on a base. It looks alright for a cardboard cutout (I just filled in the hollow chimney). Those towers are ripe for a bit of love. I am still searching for the little tower in that picture (4th edition starter) I have it somewhere and wanted to give it a facelift
