Quick question as just want to make sure I'm reading it right. If a model has poisoned attacks and you give it a magic sword, does it lose the poisoned attacks?
Pg 73 of the brb says any spells and attacks made with magic weapons are unaffected. I read that as unaffected by poison.
I'm due to face a witch elf hag with obsidian blade in a game so want to make sure of the rule beforehand. Cheers M

Yup, unless the sword itself has poison in its description, you lose the poison.

**The one exception might be Festus the Leechlord. He gives everyone is his unit poisoned attacks. IIRC, the book even says "other characters". I think we played it that way once upon a time. Maybe it was FAQ'd.

Hi all, on a related subject (well dark elf related), I have a few other queries: 1) does the cauldron count towards the units footprint for horde formation? So if a unit had four models either side of the cauldron, would that count as 10 models so the unit could attack in 3 ranks? I'm guessing it would (and it work the same for a screaming bell in a unit). 2) can the hag bsb, mounted on the cauldron make way (say to a flank) or would she have to stay on the cauldron (does it count as a chariot so she has to stay 'mounted' on it). I can't promise more queries going forward but I'll try and limit them and I promise I'm not trying to outdo strutsagget 😉 I think I've learnt more from all these rule query posts, in the last month, than in the last 3 years playing... Cheers M

1) Yes, it counts toward the horde formation foot print seeing as how the horde formation adds a rank of attacks due to the "crush" of bodies (or in this case bodies and chariot).
2) The Death Hag cannot leave the Cauldron since it is taken as her mount. Kinda like taking a warhorse, then saying, I really want my dude on foot. Can't do it. Now if it is destroyed out from beneath her, that's when she'll be on foot. The Cauldron also has to stay front and center in the unit, so there is no way for it to move to a flank to fight.

What mottdon says.
1) Dark Elves AB, p47: The Cauldron of Blood can join and leave units as if it were a character. BRB p. 98: "If your character(s) fit into the unit in this manner, work out the unit's ranks (and therefore its rank bonus) as if the space was filled with rank and file troops."
2) Note that the Hag on the Cauldorn could still make a extremely limited "Make Way" move, if the number of other models is uneven.

But she wouldn't be able to attack to a flank would she? Units don't get supporting attacks to their flanks, right? Am I remembering this wrong? If this is the case, I don't see how she can actually make an attack to her flank while 1) she is still mounted on the cauldron and 2) there are still more than 3 models in the same unit.

No, definitely not to the flank. The shift I am talking about is really minute. If you had a frontal rank XXCXXX (C being the Cauldron), she could shift to XXXCXX. In both cases, the Cauldron would be in the centre of the front rank.
