Lore of Metal is a good complementary lore for high elves I feel as well. Most units would benefit from that 5+ scaly skin, the +1 to hit and AP helps spears out, and the +6 spell is always handy against hordes (and not TOO overpowered I feel either).
Can't forget the sig spell, nasty against anything with a decent armor save especially against things like gyrocopters and it's flaming if for some reason that's important (don't use it against irondrakes).
True there are a couple duds (gehennas golden hounds? I treat this one as a second casting of the sig spell, it's nice though when those characters fail a LoS! but don't count on it; also very scary for characters like engineers who like to hang outside of units), but I feel that lore is largely overlooked. After being forced into that lore all the time (Lore of Tzeentch is terrible) I've come to appreciate metal a lot more than I used to.
If you're looking for something different.

Sounds good. I might give that a try with my HE. I usually go with High magic just because there are so many good extra benefits for the HE army when using that lore, but I even have a HE mage all painted up, ready for the lore of Metal. I think I've only used him once or twice.
I usually use the Lore of Metal when I take Balthesar Gelt. And not only does he have the Loremaster trait, he also has great benefits when casting.

I think the Ironbreakers only get a 5++ save even if charged. Their rule just allows them to get 5++ all the time in combat, rather than an addition +1 to the party save when charged. As always I’m not near the book so I might be wrong.

You're right. They have the Shieldwall of Gromril, which gives them the 5++ parry save. They don't additionally have a Shieldwall Special Rule. I was combining the two. I was incorrect.
