I am curious what the size of everyone's painting backlog is. Mine is pretty big (in my opinion but perhaps not) but I feel I have reduced it slightly in recent time. Whoever has the most impressive mountain of unpainted miniatures can select what I paint next (alongside Krell) I have (before I even get into things I intend on repainting): Krell 2 Wraiths Vargulf Mounted Necromancer 21 Bugman's Rangers (including the man himself) Dwarf Musician 30 Chaos Dwarf Blunderbusses 10 Bull Centaurs 2 Earthshaker Cannon Deathrocket Chaos Dwarf Sorceror on Lamassu Chaos Dwarf Castellan BSB 10 Hobgoblin Wolfriders (including Khan) 30 Hobgoblins Chaos Dwarf Sorceror Frost Phoenix High Elf Command Azhag the Slaughterer 10 metal Night Goblins Night Goblin Shamen (metal) 2 Daemon Princes 30 Plaguebearers (metal) Epidemius 3 Bloodcrushers 15 Chaos Warriors Slaanesh Champion Dragon Ogre Shaggoth 2 Heroes on Discs Magnetised Chaos Standards Beastlord Rakarth/Malekith 30 Dark Elf Repeater Xbows 5 Dark Elf Cold One Knights

Nope, my pile is almost all old school Wood Elves that are gonna get a swampy coat of paint. Your pile, good sir, is larger for sure. I just like GW circa 1998 Hobgoblin miniatures.

You...want to see my paint queue? Are we sticking to just fantasy?
I've been snatching up single models and armies off of ebay that I know I'll eventually want for all the different armies *that I tell myself* I'll eventually start.
There's:
Around 6000 points of Skaven Around 4000 points of Dark Elves Around 2000 points of Dwarves Around 4000 points of Empire Around 4000 points of Lizardmen Around 1000 points of Ogre Kingdoms On top of all that I still have: 30 Chaos Warriors with halberds 5 Marauder Horsemen 10 Chaos Knights 5 Varanguard Archaon 6 chaos horsey chariots 50 Bestigors 50 ungors 20 ungor raiders
I'll be painting until I die.
But I wouldn't have it any other way; the day the models to paint run out IS the day that I die.

Errr - wow this is a bit worrying. Looking at my miniature spreadsheet I hadn't realised there were so many... Most of the unpainted bits relate to my early Warhammer purchases, mainly 3rd-5th edition and that's because I didn't paint much when I was younger (though saying that, a fair bit of my orcs are badly painted and are excluded from the below) and because most of it is down at my parents (in storage per say) so haven't gotten round to using/painting it. I've excluded non fantasy (40k/bloodbowl etc.) and added a few specific names to some of the Orc units as thought Kevin might appreciate some of the older models Orc and Goblin30 Black orc (includes Eeza Ugezods mothercrushers) 23 Savage Orcs 1 Savage Orc Big boss (new) 1 Savage orc shaman 50 Orcs (including Rugluds armoured orcs - 3rd ed version and Mighty Ugezods's Death Commandos) 1 Orc shaman 17 Arrer boys (Harboths Orc Archers) 10 Savage orc boar boyz 1 Savage orc shaman on boar 1 wolf chariots (4th ed) 1 Goblin War chariot (3rd ed. I think that's pretty cool that you have a spreadsheet where you keep track of your models.
I need to do something like that so I have a detailed inventory of everything I have (with pictures) in case I ever suffer through a fire or theft for insurance purposes. And to give myself crippling depression when I see just how many models I still have left to paint.

Knoffles I think I want to know what in the world that miniatures spreadsheet is. I have a basement full of stuff.
The only things in the que right now are Blood Bowl and Shadespire. I'm going to round base my daemons as the next step.
There are other things - some of them 27 years old that aren't painted but no real expectation it's going to get done. So little time with job and kids - I can't pretend I'm going to be painting an army any time soon.

These are some great lists! Knoffles, I need to make a spreadsheet like you have of all my unpainted and painted stuff as well. Ryryak, the insurance idea is a rather good one. How would you go about assigning a price to your painted and unpainted stuff?
It's gonna take me a while to compile everything that I have, but I'll be working on it. I might be a contender. Maybe not. I just need to go through all my stuff after work.

I don't have the stomach to go through all my models. There are boxes and boxes of them across closets all over the house. And under the bed.
As far as insurance goes, you'll just have to keep a running list and then (heaven forbid) if something bad ever does happen, you'll just have to look at what current retail is for the items you've lost. I'm unsure about time spent working on them, if that's something billable or not. An insurance agent would be better suited to answer that one.

Rochester folks one of the head Da Boyz people runs an Allstate Insurance office. If you want to meet with an agent sympathetic to our needs shoot me an email.

Knoffles I think I want to know what in the world that miniatures spreadsheet is. It’s not complete as haven’t added my Beastmen to it but I spent a number of hours going through the boxes at my folks as wasn’t sure what was there. I then started to expand it with stuff at home. The spreadsheet itself is just a simple template knocked together, split by army, with model type and model count. I’ve started to add a third column (painted status) and being an excel geek if it is denoted as painted, it highlights the record green.

How about it gives you a GOLD STAR!
