I'm not able to play in this weekends Crossroads GT event but it is close to home so I was able to stop by for a bit this morning. I took some pictures of armies/units that I thought were cool so I figured I would share. I have never seen these halberds before. Are they from an old starter set?

Thanks for sharing. Those monopose Halberdiers came in a box of 30 called Regiment of Altdorf. I'm pretty sure it was early 4th edition. At some point they were also sold in a box of 10.

Awesome pics! Anton is correct, back in 4th edition there was the Empire Halberdiers box set consisting of 30 figures. For me, there is something about the same figure (pose) making a full regiment – I love it. That Lizardmen army is great and I love the Nurgle stuff. That's Ronen's Night Goblin army, I love his mushrooms and squigs. I'm jealous I'm not there. dannytee how are the Dwarfs doing? How is the tournament overall? How is the WFB turnout? Will Corey continue doing 8th ed. tournaments?

I don't think Dan is playing. It seems he just visited yesterday. Will, on the other hand, he's playing.

dannytee how are the Dwarfs doing? How is the tournament overall? How is the WFB turnout? Will Corey continue doing 8th ed. tournaments? I was not playing in the tournament but just stopped by for a few hours to see what was going on. I would have liked to play but just couldn't commit to the whole weekend with the new baby at home. I got to watch a full game of orcs and goblins vs. ogres. The ogres got a big win but early it looked like the orc/goblin army had the game so there was some back and forth that made it interesting. The ogre army had 2 stonehorns and 1 thundertusk and was able to charge all three into a horde of savage orcs on the same turn. The impact hits and thunder stomps killed roughly 20 savages. It was awesome. And then these monsters are all toughness 6 so the savages had a tough time wounding. Over a few rounds of combat the savages eventually got wiped out. There were about 50 people who showed up to play fantasy. Corey had a survey in the tournament handout asking players what game systems they want to see at future crossroads. Corey has indicated that future crossroads tournaments will probably be multi format. Which games they will actually run depends on what people vote for and what game systems people will actually show up to play. Crossroads also had a warmachine tournament this weekend. They had space for roughly 40 players but for some reason very few people actually signed up for that event. They had less than 10. The strange part about this is I have a friend in the area who plays warmachine weekly and he never has a problem finding games with different people from the area.

I should add that Corey seems to really like Kings of War so I think that is one of the systems that he will run at future crossroads, but again it depends on participation.

Lots of Ogres, lots of Empire. Only 1 Chaos Dwarf, only 1 Wood Elf. No Tomb Kings, no Beastmen, I don't think I saw any Bretonnians. I only saw 2 Dark Elf. I only saw 2 High Elf. Lots of Warriors of Chaos My guess was Empire 1st-most, Ogres 2nd-most, Woc 3rd-most.

The general consensus amongst the humans on site this weekend was strongly pro Kings of War. I believe they announced that the upcoming Unplugged event would be KOW (not 8th, not 9th). The KOW feeling was not so much that it is a cooler game system, simply better than "*8th-with-comp" or "Some-agreed-upon-version-of-9th". And apparently it's good for tourney play.

I was there. I had fun. The armies that were there felt very similar... dare I say stale. i.e. quite a few Empire steel wall armies with mostly (inner circle) knights + demigryphs + steam tanks.
My army was very nimbly bimbly - able to flank and break big chunks of steadfast troops. But not so good at Monster Mashing. There were a lot of Monsters.
One of the Dark Elf Players had 3 (3!!!) hydras. One of the Ogre players had 3 (3!!!) thundertusks.
A lot of the players were very excited about Kings of War. Seems like the wave of the future... mostly based on folks not wanting to argue over "Which 8th.5 rule set to we use for THIS event??".
Players want 1 rule set, with (possibly) different comps or army building restrictions. It is generally felt that having to remember 3 or 4 different sets of rules is too hard.
