Downside of FB groups. Forums you can pin good topics and folks can read old threads or use the search function or just to ignore if you choose a sub forum for army list discusssion. FB group is just in your face with everything. ---------Yes, I was surprised when people gave up forums for social media. Forums are the perfect forums for discussions.

Facebook is actually better for looking at pics of painted models. Forums are actually the worst for that.
But I agree that discussion is horrible on social media.

photobucket Terms of Service change (now costs to share on the web) has lost us a lot of the old pictures in any case. I did see that on the TK forum, we lost all the banner stuff but I'd delayed the change over of site format and the site while not quiet as intended seems to have survived this and photo bucket - or at least my old pictures seem to have. None are the photo bucket picture or at least none that I've noticed. Greg

Facebook is actually better for looking at pics of painted models. Forums are actually the worst for that. How so? You can just cruise in and see the most pics quickly if that's all you want. Forums always involve slogging through threads and crappy Photobucket issues. Blogs are the best for looking at painting pics with the tags.

So, basically looking at a bunch of crappy snapshots someone took and quickly threw out there with not organization at all.
I'll take the dedicated log of someone's work who actually CARES about what they're doing.
Otherwise, what are any of us doing here?

Huh?
Some of the Facebook groups have great pics of painted models with text. And a lot of forums have some of the worst quality photos out there. It's kinda up to the individual posting the content. I'm a little confused why you think they don't care...
It's an easier system when you just want to see the pics. Maybe I didn't say that before. Sometimes I just want to breeze through some cool mode pics and not get hung up going through pages of text or replies that I don't need.
Staring at pics of other people's minis is not the most productive use of my time, so it's nice to have a quick way to do it.
The migration away from forums seem to indicate many others feel the same.
Forums ate still the best platform for discussion of technique, rules, battle reports, etc.
But I prefer Instagram/Facebook for quick pics or a blog (best format).

I have to say I love blogging and reading blogs. It’s probably my preferred medium for one on one interaction and ‘specialist’ interests. However forums are where I come for more detailed discussions on tactics and a wider variety of viewings. I’ll use Facebook but I dislike the here today gone tomorrow nature of much of the posts.

It's just the current, easily-accessed media form. That's what I meant by, "People who don't care". It all too easy to snap a quick shot with your phone and immediately send it to Facebook. That's why there are so many crap posts on media like that. Stuff like, "Look at what I'm eating!" or "Here's a picture of my feet!" There's so much junk out there, I typically steer clear of Facebook. I just don't care to look at 100 photos of someone's kid laying on the couch watching tv. I suppose I lump people taking pics of their models in the same category. If I spend hours working on modeling, filing, priming, painting, setting up light boxes and adequate lighting, taking pics, then editing, documenting and posting that work, I want it to have more of a dedicated place to view and discuss what I've done. But I can understand that in our fast-paced world, that's not going to fit everyone's lifestyle. Unfortunately. It also seems to me that if I'm looking for something in particular that I found to be inspiring, and wanted to go back at a later date to use it for my work, with the sheer volume of posts going up, it'd be quickly buried and difficult to re-locate if I didn't think at the time to flag it in some manner. On forums such as this, most threads are adequately titled and easy to navigate, so finding source material should be an easy task, in most cases. But, as I said, I'm not overly "Facebook-savvy" so there may be a way of locating certain pics in a much easier manner. And as far as "active" blogs go, I just can't seem to keep up. When I follow a live thread and get ready to post a comment, by the time I'm ready, the thread has already moved 2-3 pages of more comments and flown in a completely different direction. I find that I erase more comments that I've written than I do post! Lol. And alternatively, if a thread isn't "current" not many people look at it because they've moved on to the current topics and left that one to rot in the dust. That can easily happen here as well, but we're not so overly crowded that it happens. And the people of this community are mostly dedicated enough to comment on any pertinent information that might be "resurrected" because someone didn't see it the first time. *Sorry if this has completely derailed this thread!"*

FB does have the advantage of great reach and ease of accessibility. I didn't log into this forum while on vacation out of twon for the last week but I could check FB easily on my mobile devices.
The hobby quality (images) in the FB group is higher then what I used to see on forums (though less able to tell me a story over time or be something I can reread to look for an inspiring technique.)

I used to save them on the ipad. My wife asked me why there are 3000 pics currently saved.

Yeah. A lot of really high quality WH pics on the book of face. A bunch of pro painters seem to use it. I feel like forums have some of the worst quality pics out there. I include myself in that. Can't snap a pic of my models to save my life.
