I have started on Hashut's favorites. And, of course, every chaos dwarf army needs some hobgoblins for menial tasks like redirecting. So I am trying to figure out how to model hobgoblin wolf riders. My rose-tinted nostalgia is limited to Empire models so I am not too impressed by the dated GW hobgoblin sculpts...and even less so by the prices they command on ebay.
I like GWs mongol-esque concept. Any suggestions for models? I have Fenrisian wolves, so mounts are sorted. I also have some old goblin wolf rider heads with the right style helmet and there is an old dwarf body with a fur vest over chainmail that could work. Not sure how well all this goes together. Maybe there is a third party model that fits the bill?

So what are the differences between Goblins and Hobgoblins? They both look quite similar to me.

From what I have read (very limited) they are taller and more slim. Not as tall as a human.

-------I did two of their kickstarters, awesome stuff. All by Kev "Goblin Master" Adams.

thanks for the suggestions. I don't think any of these will quite do it for me. I will see what I can cook up by kit-bashing. For now I just want a khan, much easier than coming up with a whole unit. mottdon, GW hobgoblins seem to be: -taller than regular goblins -slightly more civilized i.e. wearing more clothing and fancier weapons -'eastern'/mongol vibe for clothing+helmets -with REALLY long noses (as opposed to just long noses like a goblin) of course KevinC is the expert on goblin physiology, he actually wrote the GW-official textbook on that topic after all. also, in case somebody else is looking into this, here are some more options: warhammerarmiesproject.blogspot.com/2015/05/alternative-miniatures-hobgoblins.html

I feel your pain with this, I went through a similar experience but in the end I just went with the oldschool GW sculpts. If you do opt for these I would suggest heading to the trading forum on chaos dwarfs online, you can generally pick up multiple models at better than eBay prices. Unfortunately they are among the most difficult to pick up models I have tried to get hold of. There aren't even any reliable recasters who do them. Beware the shonky spanish recasts which appear on eBay, they are terrible quality. The alternative models are alright, the goblins themselves look different enough to me that they can be hobgoblins, I really don't like the wolf sculpts but if you have fenrisian wolves already that takes care of that. The downside is that they cost almost as much as you would pay for the old GW models or the Oglah Khan sculpts KevinC mentioned.. I guess it is just a question of aesthetics www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warhammer-DOW-Dogs-Of-War-Oglah-Khans-Hobgoblin-Wolfboyz-x5-Primed-Black-RARE/263507619161?hash=item3d5a472d59:g:KUUAAOSwnUlai4m-

at the moment I am mostly concerned about wolf riders. Below is what I came up with just kitbashing. Couldn't really get the mongol vibe going. and deciding how much to shorten the limbs wasn't easy. He will do for now as a Khan (but might be denoted to a regular wolf rider if I come up with something better.)

Yeah I understand. I am divided about doing Mongols too. At the moment I am thinking about doing lotr hunter orcs as they exist with wolves too. Please describe what parts you use for kit bashing
