Empire Turn 1: Mounted priest swings left to wait for hounds, archers march on opposite. Lloyd moves up behind chapel, Arno swings right waiting for warriors to enter the kill zone. Empire infantry units maneuver a bit, essentially getting out of Gotrek’s way because he gives zero fucks about danger and wants to get his hands on that hellcannon beast. Fire wizard fails extended range flame cage on big warrior unit, rolling a 13 with 4 dice and level 2, breaking concentration. Outriders target knights, killing 2. Cannons target hellcannon and both hit. One fails to wound while the other is saved by the monster’s demonic ward save. Gunners in building just have range on knights, cause 3 wounds but the knights save them all. Warriors Turn 1: The spawn got in the way of the crushers but the rest of the army (minus the hellcannon beast) rushes forward at maximum speed. The 2 warrior blocks stayed close together backed by the shrine. Angered by their losses the knights spurred their foul steeds and sped toward the outriders on the hill, supported behind by forsaken and by hounds on their right flank. Khornan, seeking the most direct route to kill someone, ran into the mushroom forest. At ld 10, he gives as many fucks as Gotrek. Warshrine fails to get its ruinous magic past the defense of the Imperial wizard. The hellcannon kills 2 halberdiers as it’s shot drifts off target.

Empire Turn 2: Mounted priest successfully charges hounds on left flank while the state troops in the center maneuver and wait for the warriors. Arno repositions behind greatswords. Lloyd peeks around the side of the chapel and doesn’t like what he sees on the opposite side. Archers on the right flank hold as they prepare to shoot down the nearby spawn. The free company enter the chapel at the sight of dozens of Khorne warriors approaching. Gotrek notices Khornan in the mushroom forest and, ignoring the warrior block on his right, swings toward the giant. Shooting units on the left hold as they hope to at least destroy the knights and their BSB friend. The large warrior unit is hit with Flame Cage but they are not wounded. This should hold them in place next turn allowing the shooters to pick targets more easily. This also helps Gotrek. Combined shooting from outriders, volley gun, handgunners, and 2 cannons manages to kill only 2 knights and the BSB. Meanwhile one great cannon exploded due to misfire. General Arno shouted “the cannon exploded but nobody panic!” The nearby greatswords failed their panic check but passed the BSB reroll. Close one. The archers put a wound on the spawn. In the combat phase the priest smashed 2 hounds, broke them, and restrained pursuit. His reform positioned him well to address the incoming forsaken and lone Khorne knight.

Chaos needs to turn it around

Warriors Turn 2: Knight fails his charge against the volley gun but the forsaken complete theirs against the outriders. 3 forsaken die to stand and shoot. Khornan passes his stupidity in the mushroom forest and charges Gotrek and Felix. With flame cage up, the warriors test to hold while the rest of the army center repositions and keeps their blood lust in check a little longer. The spawn advances 10 inches toward the flanking archers. The hounds lose their nerve and leave the battlefield. In the magic phase the halberd warrior champion Za’aal gained +1T and Khul gained +1A as the Warshrine bettered the combined magic defense of the entire Imperial army. The hellcannon beast belched forth and it’s vile payload landed just short of the greatsword horde. Khornan exchanged blows with the vagabond duo. They took 2 wounds while the giant sustained 3. Drawn combat. The forsaken of Khorne slaughter 7 outriders and break them from combat. The outriders escape by three inches. Empire Turn 3: Luthor charges the flank of the lone Khorne knight, the outriders rally, and Arno and Lloyd do some minor maneuvering. Because of the 60mm wide base on Gotrek, it’s impossible to charge Khornan and provide help. Not that Gotrek needs any help there. The fire wizard threw a fireball at the halberd warriors but it was narrowly dispelled by foul enchantments. Luthor the priest successfully claimed a 5+ ward save to aid him in the combat against the Khorne knight. Combined fire from handgunners and volley gun only killed 4 forsaken, leaving behind 3 deadly warriors. They did their best to save the poor outriders but failed to do so. Meanwhile the cannon crew targeted Khul and one of his warriors intercepted the shot. The archers managed 9 hits on the spawn but could not penetrate his T5 lava-infused hide. Luthor and the knight traded blows but were unable to harm each other. The flank charge was enough to send the last knight packing and Luthor restrained pursuit to face the 3 remaining Khorne forsaken. Gotrek and Felix finished off Khornan who dropped dead inches from their feet. With the giant dead Gotrek freed himself to pursue other foes.

Nice report and models!
So what is the golden age for playing with fantastic war soldiers battles(dolls 😃 )with your children before we parents get unfun to play with?
My middle boy is 5 and showing interest, but rules are way to hard, even age of Sigmar so we just ”play” whatever I can make up and roll some dice.

Once video games got into him it’s been hard to get him to play. He painted minis at ages 4 and 5 but then I started playing LEGO games on Xbox and he hasn’t painted since. Games are maybe twice a month with him but at 13 he’s now old enough to do tournaments with us.

Great report, Rick! I really look forward to the day when I can get all four of my Quads to start gaming with me. We'll have our own little tournaments in our own home!

Warriors Turn 3: The forsaken complete a very short charge on the outriders, too close for a stand and shoot reaction. The hellcannon failed its roll and advanced 12 inches toward Luthor and the large warrior unit failed to restrain charging so their frenzy caused them to fail a long charge against Gotrek. Meanwhile Khul and his Khorne halberdiers maneuvered with the Warshrine to hold the central battle line. Oh, and the Khorne knight champion fled right in front of everyone. The skullcrushers marched over fences and woods to set up a later charge on Arno and Lloyd. Arno could simply fly away but it appears Lloyd cannot avoid this combat. The spawn eyed up the Imperial archers but moved a measly 2 inches toward them with his random move 2D6. In the magic phase the Warshrine cast Giver of Glory with irresistible force. Khorgos Khul gained another attack for a total of 8(with frenzy)! The frenzied Khorne forsaken destroyed 2 outriders, causing the surviving musician to flee from the battlefield. Frenzy led the forsaken to pursue them. Off-board for the Empire shooting phase means that they could live to cause more destruction. End of turn 3 looks like this: Empire Turn 4: The greatswords with priest and BSB charge Khul and his halberd warriors while Lloyd says YOLO and crashes into the Khorne skullcrushers. Gotrek and Felix drove off the fleeing Khorne knight champion but failed to reach the sword and shield warriors in front of them. Luthor positioned himself to wait for the forsaken and Arno launched his griffon over the battle line to set up a turn 5 rear charge. The archers on the right flank realized that the spawn was closing with them and tactically backed up to continue their steady, but ineffective, fire. End of turn 4 movement: The winds of magic blew weakly for the Imperial force as they were able to cast flame cage on the large warrior unit but failed to cause any wounds. Chaos dispelled the Shield of Faith prayer from the priest in the greatsword combat. In a particularly inept shooting phase the Talabheim soldiers managed to kill only one warrior with a cannonball. Oof. Now they get to watch the Khorne buzzsaw fire up in the combat phase. Lloyd was severely wounded by the skullcrusher riders but held on long enough to thump the unit champion with his massive club, causing 7 wounds to the unfortunate target. Ultimately, Lloyd was felled by a juggernaut and fell clear of the combat. Khorghos Khul bellowed out a challenge that was accepted by the greatsword champion Karl VonBraun. Karl was minced by Khul’s axe: Slaughter-Gore, taking 6 wounds. The combat saw 7 more greatswords perish while chaos warriors only suffered 3 casualties despite the greatswords scoring an impressive 18 hits out of 21 attacks. End of Empire turn: Warriors Turn 4: The frenzied warriors are forced to flank charge the nearby greatswords. The flame cage surrounding them erupted when they moved, killing 10 blood-soaked warriors! The forsaken returned to the field and faced both the volley gun and Luthor. With a grunt, the skullcrushers juggernauts wheeled around the chapel toward the great cannon and the juicy flank of the Empire halberd bus. On the left flank the spawn advanced 7 inches toward the skirmishing archers. Unable to roll the elusive “double ones” the Khorne knight champion sped even closer to his army’s deployment edge. Hoping to finally score a big hit the hellcannon beast pivoted into the mushroom forest to face the bulk of the Imperial troops. Giver of Glory was cast with irresistible force granting Khorghos Khul +1sv and the two nearby champions each +1A. The hellcannon beast belched short of its target again, hoping to melt some halberdiers and cause a panic test while Arno is in the enemy backfield. Corchoran the warrior priest answered the Khorne Lord’s challenge and was promptly destroyed. At this point Khorghos Khul has 10 attacks in combat due to repeated trips to the eye of the gods table. Another 12 greatswords were slain by combined attacks while 5 halberd warriors succumbed to blows from the stubborn greatswords. Outflanked, outnumbered, and falling fast the greatswords refused to flee. End of Turn 4:

Empire Turn 5: Arno charged the rear of the halberd warriors and Gotrek+halberdiers charged the flank of the hand weapon/shield warriors. Luthor charged the forsaken on the Empire’s left flank. Meanwhile reinforcements arrived from Talabecland and the free company troops left the safety of the chapel to put pressure on the skullcrushers bearing down on the Imperial backfield. The archers hold their position for a final opportunity to shoot down the Khorne spawn. In the magic phase Luthor prayed for the Shield of Faith and was granted it irresistibly. The volley gun wounded the hellcannon beast once while the handgunners struggled to even hit the monster as it lurked in the back of the mushroom forest. The archers managed to put one more wound on the spawn. The cannon scored a direct hit on a skullcrusher but was unable to cause a single wound. Luthor was slain outright by a decapitating claw. In the massive central combat the Empire BSB was killed in a challenge with Khul (who gained +1T). The Imperial troops and Arno caused 12 wounds while taking 18 in return. Losing combat by 1...the Empire line held, though they are running out of greatswordsmen. End of Empire Turn 5: Warriors Turn 5: The skullcrushers charge the great cannon and the forsaken engage the volley gun defending the Empire’s left flank. The Khorne Warshrine charged the halberdiers in an effort to tip the combat in Chaos’s favor. Somehow the Khorne spawn was unable to reach the archers. This area of the battlefield has become an exercise in unit ineffectiveness. Giver of Glory is cast AGAIN by the Warshrine. This time Khul gained +1sv while champion Za’aal gained +1T and the other champion earned +1S. The boosts from the Warshrine have been insane this game and I’m stunned that someone hasn’t pulled off daemonhood yet. The hellcannon (a major disappointment so far) once again failed to hit its target. This time it couldn’t drop a template on a house without drifting way off. Combat started with Khorghos Khul eliminating the Imperial griffon via heroic killing blow. On foot, Arno drove his Runefang into Khul causing 2 wounds. The halberd-armed warriors finished off the remaining 6 greatswords, broke Arno, and pursued him ending just 2 inches behind him. The rest of the central combat was less exciting. Some Talabheim halberdiers died, one warrior died, Gotrek and Felix utterly whiffed, and everyone held due to being unbreakable or steadfast. Free from the greatswords, the sword and shield warriors reformed to face Gotrek. The skullcrushers predictably murdered the great cannon crew while the forsaken only managed one wound against the volley gun crew. How things look after 5:

Empire Turn 6: Arno flees another 8 inches. It’s too late for the reserves to help so they just maneuver around. The fire wizard in the burned out house cast a boosted fireball with irresistible force, killing 3 halberd warriors. The subsequent magical feedback wounded the wizard once. The handgunners failed to wound the hellcannon beast. Finally, the archers brought down the spawn. The forsaken revealed poisoned tendrils and used them to finish off the volley gun crew. They then reformed to face the house full of handgunners nearby. In combat Gotrek defeated the chaos champion in a challenge while the remaining warriors and the Warshrine battered the halberdiers. The humans broke and fled from the Warshrine while Gotrek stayed behind to finish business with the remaining 5 Khorne warriors.
