These days, I'd have to say the Chimera. They are cheap, dish out a ton of damage, and they fly! Since they are special units, a Chaos player can have 3 of them! They are 4+ armour and you can upgrade them with regeneration! If I see 2 or more on the table I'm flustered about how to deal with them!!

Find a way to make them take a panic test.

I remember I had a chimera next to a unit of riders on a flank and on first turn a gyrocopter bombed the rider causing panic and the chimera fled

I suppose this is why they are usually escorting a Demon Prince? (I assume he's the general and would have a good Ld level with Inspiring Presence.)

all true. It does mean that there are places the chimera does not want to go (alone) and that helps a bit when you are assessing threats as the WoC army barrels towards you.
Also, once combat mayhem has started and after all kinds of pursuit and overruns, the chimera may end up away from the general and that can be an opportunity to shoot/magic those riders of the board to cause a panic test instead of shooting something else that by itself is more threatening. For example, I would shoot the cannon at the last warhound and cause that panic test instead of shooting directly at an unwounded lone chimera with regen.

That actually makes sense. You're pretty much guaranteed points for that lone Warhound (If your cannon fires correctly) as opposed to the potential regen from the Chimera.
I guess that also makes another reason to shoot the DP first. Take him out, remove his Ld bubble, and panic the Chimeras in the process. This is exactly why cannons exist in Warhammer Fantasy. Never leave home without it.

well, don't think those 30 victory points matter most of the time. but, even if the chimera fails its ward, there is a good chance you will just wound it and then it will be really, really angry. Better to have the chimera just slink off in embarrassment on a failed panic test. Still, aiming at the DP first is a good idea. Just plink that guy with x-bow first to take away the charmed shield (Every DP gets one at birth).

Lol, I learned that the hard way the first time I faced a DP! I shot him with a cannon, which he immediately Charmed Shielded, and I even had a unit of Outriders sitting right there, staring him down! My other cannon misfired of course.... He shrugged off the Outrider shots and when he charged them in his next turn, they fled off the table and he redirected into my Halberdier block, which he quickly destroyed and ran down. GREAT turn two! I learned my lesson though!

The daemon Prince is at least very vulnerable to shooting, the unit I hate to face the most is the 3+ wardsave discriders who also re-roll 1's, the chance of killing it is slim, but it gets even worse when they heal & have the Crown of Command.
