Specialist games have been pretty good at sticking to the rules and spirit of the games they've brought back. They'd certainly be capable of bringing back a good WFB.

I’m not going to hold my breath for a gw revival of the old world. Would I be against it? Maybe. GW seems like they want to streamline everything for the most part. I can’t imagine fantasy with out templates and charts. And having already nuked the old world once I don’t see it ever coming back the same. See I’m in two minds about that. I only tried out 40k for the first time in 7th ed and round it a horrible confusing bloated mess of rules (part of the problem was down to having the same terminology as fantasy but rules working in a completely different way - ap I’m looking at you!). Having then tried 8th 40k, I like what they’ve done with it. I think 40k got the balance roughly right, the rules are simpler but it still kept quite a few special rules. As such if they did re-release fantasy and simplify the rules in a similar way, I wouldn’t be too upset. I’m not saying make them as simple as AoS or kow but the simpler rule set for kow made picking up the new system really easy. It would also make drawing in new players much easier.

I like 40k 8th edition as well but I wouldn’t want to see it brought to Fantasy. Or maybe I would and I just don’t know it. But I will say the updates they have done On Chaos Space Marines, which is what I play, have been a confusing mess. They need 2-4 books just to play...

That I can’t comment on as I’ve just played a handful of games using basic rules + main SM codex & the annual books but those mainly for the points adjustments

I’m not saying make them as simple as AoS or kow but the simpler rule set for kow made picking up the new system really easy. It would also make drawing in new players much easier. I can see how 8th Ed 40K might be less of a mess than 7th, but it seems as though you started 40K after the good old days of 5th and 6th. In comparison to 5th and 6th, 8th is still pretty dreadful because Lords of War is still around, making the game an arms race (looking at you Eldar Wraighknight and Imperial Knights - the worst things ever to happen to 40K). If they had gone back to the style of 6th and made all those massive OP walkers only playable in Apocalypse (which they're only just getting round to releasing), it would have saved it from the resulting different mess it has become. I know this is far less likely to happen if a 9th Edition was made based on these rules, but I just think that's one of the worst parts of this new 40K. The 8th ruleset itself in terms of profiles and stuff is OK, I guess, but I just can't engage with it much because it's too much of a hybrid between AoS and previous editions of 40K - it's neither one or the other. As a result, I would still be reluctant to accept such a ruleset in Fantasy, because it's still so alien to what I'm used to. Of all those choices, I would say KoW style I would be happiest with by far - KoW but with Fantasy profiles and rules for casualties, morale e.t.c would be a great way to do Ninth Edition. It would preserve the tactical nuances but would also streamline it in a way that just wouldn't feel as much of a weird hybrid to me personally.

That I can’t comment on as I’ve just played a handful of games using basic rules + main SM codex & the annual books but those mainly for the points adjustments I just use battlescribe for points updates. Ordered a copy of Vigilus Ablaze for rules update I’m still waiting on (eBay had it for less than the new codex which doesn’t have everything in Vigilus). But I’ll be needing to bring my old codex, the demonkin codex from the Shadowspear, and Vigilus Ablaze just for Army rules, not getting into chapter approved 2018 with the points updates... like I said a mess, and doesn’t factor in FAQs heh.
