There is a reason I proclaimed in the past, and shall proclaim again. GW would be foolish not to add Warhammer Fantasy as a specialist game when they are done milking Total War for the DLC, to indicate to them 'Hey guys, you loved your little pixel peeps, now enjoy these plastic ones. Cash upfront please!"

Warhammer is Warhammer and if GW has still people of culture in its team Warhammer should be brought back as it was not given a little niche in specialist games.

I think if they do it, they will use models on round bases on movement trays like the War of the Ring.

I'm largely ok with that as I'll still bases on square bases...at least they'd be producing the appropriate models....

But then you would have SCE infused into Warhammer Fantasy... and it would kill 8th edition. No thanks.

I can easily see GW bringing back the Old World in form of specialist games. Whether rank and flank, skirmish or otherwise, there is huge potential with the Warhammer Fantasy setting even if they keep AoS as their magitech fantasy flagship alongside science fantasy 40k. Spinoff games and expensive castings of old WFB favourites (hyped up to draw in old veterans) could milk that cow.
Think e.g. Mordheim brought back, or a War of the Beard self-contained boxed game, that kind of thing.
They can of course also revive Warhammer Fantasy much as we knew it, aside from possible limited forays into their Old World IP.

But then you would have SCE infused into Warhammer Fantasy... and it would kill 8th edition. No thanks. Not necessarily - GW have remained faithful to Warhammer Fantasy lore in Specialist games like Blood Bowl (no Sigmarines in there) so it’s far more likely that if they ever did bring back Fantasy, it’s unlikely they would make such a leap.

I think you underestimate GW's love of SCE. Plus they would be foolish not to try to increase their model sales by having them in the game. In the case of Blood Bowl, they would have to specifically make new SCE models to fit within the game. In a potential 9th edition, it would be a straight port of the existing SCE range. As a result, it would cost them nothing other than writing some rules for them. Why would they not do it? Fingers crossed that you are correct, but I just don't think it would unfold in such a way.

Specialist games is already pushed beyond the limit with Heresy, Titanicus, blood bowl, necromunda, lotr and talk of BFG return in the future. They can't keep up with 30k demmand as it is with constantly missed deadlines.
Oh and they are governed by main GWs 40k demmands and timescale also taking president.
Would not hold your breath!

I’m not going to hold my breath for a gw revival of the old world. Would I be against it? Maybe. GW seems like they want to streamline everything for the most part. I can’t imagine fantasy with out templates and charts. And having already nuked the old world once I don’t see it ever coming back the same.
