How do I strip the old primer and maybe a little bit extra from my plastics??
Contrast paints note: the regular white primer accepted some contrast pretty well.
I have a bunch primed in black though and that isn’t working out so good. Want to strip them and reprime so I can contrast my way to victory.

Contrast will only work on light primer, as its essentially a "stain". White, cream and grey works best with them as it allows the undercoat to act as a "highlight" where it doesn't pool within recesses.
So to strip your models, if you're a UK resident, you can purchase Dettol (make sure it's the brown "original one").
Place the models into a receptacle. e.g an old butter or take-away tub.
Pour over the Dettol, and leave to soak for 24 hrs.
After which, use an old toothbrush to brush the model free of paint over the sink or outside.
Be sure not the wear anything "nice" either as you don't want residue on them!

...if your black primer coat was nice and thin, I would just primer over in white (or cream or gray). maybe try it on one model and see if the details are still there.

Any ideas that way?

I wish I was in the UK sometimes.... easier to find a game!!! I need to find a US solution though unfortunately. Any ideas that way? There are options, BioStrip, which i you can get on Amazon... I haven't used it, but I've been told that the benefit of it over Dettol is that you can use it over and over... But in the same way as Dettol... So I'd try that if I was AMERICAN, hehe.

You can get Dettol on amazon.com (I suppose there are enough ex-pat Brits here needing to tend to their wounds to make it worth their while).

Fairy power spray seems to work alright on plastic too. Don't leave them too long or they will start to soften

Fairy power spray seems to work alright on plastic too. Don't leave them too long or they will start to soften They changed the formula on that a few years ago, and the new stuff just doesn't work for stripping. Still great on ovens though!

I use purple power. I have an older one still kicking around so I don't know if this new packaging is just that or if it's a new formula. But it works really well - let the models sit for a few days ( I do overnight after a couple runs through the sonic cleaner) and the paint just flakes off.

The key is to treat the pole as if it's a real person!

So I went over a few of them today. The black shows through a little bit, but I was able to touch it up without killing details. Looks like I’m just gonna be priming over it!!! Success!

Has anyone ever used just metholated spirits (denatured alcohol) to strip paint? The advantage with this is its dirt cheap and I already have the stuff. I found this video from Luke’s APS and his tips are normally pretty spot on: youtu.be/7SsWOYMialA. I’m going to start stripping paint from my 30 odd 3rd edition halflings in the near future and will give it a go on a test mini.
