Even then, it would have new blood. And those who prefer 8th will still play 8th. I have no intention to try to dissuade you from your optimistic point of view. Here's hoping! Accidently quoted the wrong post, thank you for the kind words, I only feel the way I do because my local clubs are chill about old versions of minatures.

You know, that Ogre Tyrant they just released will fit in perfectly with the Old World aesthetic. I wonder if we will start seeing more and more new models being capable of fitting in both games from now on, rather than just the new AoS only factions. That'd make sense to me. By the time this official Old World edition is released, they could've built up enough models to flesh out most armies and with the addition of a major starter set release, things would be supported to full steam. What do you guys think? Should we all rush out and purchase this Tyrant model to show our support for the Old World? I grabbed the whole set anyway. I love the tyrant model anyway and the only AoS thing on it is is the one stormcast helmet, which is easily replaceable (if you so desired) and I didn't have any ogres either. I already own several of the larger models (which I love) but never got around to picking up troops. The only problem with the new big set is that you only get enough bodies for 2 leadbelchers (unless you nab 2 from the other unit) so I grabbed a box of ogres to go along with it. But now I have a full unit of both troops and some spare ogres to make a hunter (with the bits left over from one of my stonehorn kits) The new bonereaper models I'll add to the pile of bits I'm collecting up to make a not-tomb kings force as a gift. I did suspect that the new tyrant might have been a sculpt they got ready at the end of 8th and never got around to releasing. It's far too close to the WFB vibe to have been made directly for AoS and the addition of the stormcast helmet seems like such an easy thing for them to stick on a 3d sculpt. Only thing that doesn't hold up to this theory is that there is no square base on the frame, which the other heroes of the time came with.

I think the Tyrant is genuinely new, just the Ogre Kingdoms' models have a set look to them (having been released over a relatively short span of years) so changing the aesthetic would mean changing all the other models - which they probably don't want to do, as it's a good, distinct look that works fine in AoS. Given the Stormcast helmet I don't think he was designed with future WFB usage in mind. I'm also not sure how much AoS releases will take WFB into account, given the dynamism of the models is a big thing for AoS, and often means they can't be ranked up easily.

Whatever happened to the guy with the tons of Empire models? Don't tell me he got rid of them?!? He had another kid who has some serious health issues. He hasn't played ANYTHING in almost a year I don't blame him at all. Plus I moved to a new city that's a little ways away so logistics are harder now

Ah. I hate that for him. Hope things get better for his kid.

I don't really buy this theory (as we've been seeing a bunch of one-off heroes as part of these battle boxes), but I don't think the base thing is telling. The kit very much has modern tooling so even if sculpted 5+ years ago I suspect the mold was made recently. (But again, I think it's a new sculpt, ditto for the other battle boxes.)

Possibly of note-but probably not massively...
GW are currently giving away free access to WH:TW with post Xmas orders, under the banner of rule the Old World again....
Maybe nothing but after the announcement a few weeks ago, possibly GW positioning itself to push the Old World again in time?

It also is interesting that we're still getting TWH2 DLC. The first game had its last DLC ~14 months after release, and the second game ~18 months after release. We're over 2 years out from TWH2 and there is no official announcement of the third game and it seems like DLC for the second will keep coming.
I wonder if this means they're going to try and line the third game and The Old World up to some degree. I think holding out another 3 years for the third game would be hard for CA, but maybe if the DLC is selling well they'd be willing to do that.

My understanding is that TW:WH3 is due out at some point in 2020. I believe the last remaining DLC for WH2 is new lord packs for High Elves, Greenskins, and Dwarves.
CA said that there were no new races planned for WH2, just rehashing the main races so that they're all present in the eye of the vortex campaign in some variety.

CA said that there were no new races planned for WH2, just rehashing the main races so that they're all present in the eye of the vortex campaign in some variety. Indeed this is largely correct. There is no firm announcement what the final (I assume) dlc pack for WH2 afaik other than a Greenskins rework has been promised and you would assume it will tie in with this and give them a vortex option. Grom would be a good choice... who he (if indeed it is Grom) will be pitted against and the third lord who would be FLC will be has been speculated on plenty. The 3rd game is already in development but it will be late 2020 at the earliest. Probably announced next year for early 21? According to the very early datamine ogres, chaos dwarfs and the 4 chaos gods were the factions, which fits. Although it has obviously been a long time since then and the game has increased in scope and been very successful

Well, I'm with those who are hoping for the best and planning for the worst.
Best case scenario - The Old World is an improved Eighth Edition that we can all get behind.
Worst case scenario - It's a rehash of AOS, we all sneer, march around the internet chanting slogans of "Death to the Unbelievers" or something similar and carry on playing the Eighth.

Best case scenario - The Old World is an improved Eighth Edition that we can all get behind. ------------This would be ideal. Since they are 3 years out, what GW should have done was reprint the 8th edition range of books, even if it's just on Forgeworld. Start selling square bases again. And even come out with bundles of WFB army starters with square bases. The simple notion of GW merely stating they will support WFB again can generate a lot of interest and money for them regarding WFB. Why sit on their hands? The mainstream commercial miniatures industry could be dead in three years (gasp)....who knows! GW - open the vault now and revive WFB 8th edition!

My heart hurts for anyone that rebased a skaven army for AoS and might have to now go back.

My heart hurts for anyone that rebased a skaven army for AoS and might have to now go back. They didn't need to rebase for AoS though did they? Thought you could use squares?

Idk the details of AoS but some people definitely did rebase for whatever reason.
Maybe they will have to start an AoSfl.com forum soon.
