Hello and fair greeting I have unfortunately been away for some time - this is in part due to work, and in part due to mental health. My projects previously started (and in some cases completed) have been sold at points where I did not care about the hobby, or seeing other people to play. I have however come through this, and intend to get back on the hobby horse and get an army completed (and then keep it, and play some games!) I am a high elf player through and through and - although i have had flights of fancy with other armies - I have consistently played high elves in various editions and iterations since I started playing in 1999 or so. I love the models, the background, the aesthetic of the army - everything about them just feeds in to my inner geek and, this army will be no different. I like to build to a theme, and though this is not hard and fast - it is something i always have in the back of my mind for both painting and list composition. On this occasion I will be building an army of Avelorn, bedecked in green - glorious enough to protect the Everqueen herself. My funds are limited, and high elves are discontinued as you all know, so the army will be grown semi organically as and when i find good deals, and as finances permit. This may mean that some models and units are not my ideal vision, buit certainly at the moment i want to get 2000pts completed so I can get back to playing! Ill endeavour to post up some photos shortly of a proof model for the spears and a couple of characters Thank you for reading, and hope you enjoying seeing what I have been working on

Sounds great. Nothing wrong with a slow project.
Looking forward to seeing your work and welcome back to the hobby.
Don't forget the monthly painting challenge thread.

So, here we are ... My previous attempt at an Avelorn army was very heavy on the green, with very little white at all. This time, I am using green as the trim, as I think it should be for High Elves, and keeping the white. My painting style looks much better from arms length rather than pictures as will be clear, but they give a good indication of where I'm going. So, here is my first test model, a basic spearman sans sheild. As above, white cloth, muted greens and grey metallics. This will be their champion, a slight conversion of two damaged models, this sculpt normally holds a sword. I think I prefer him like this though. My BSB, brought very cheaply on the bay, not great at free hand design so gone for a simple gem and eye of isha rune. And, finally my mage - green and leather browns. You'll notice he is missing his pinky finger...my bad greenstuff skills could not muster a finger so instead he has a closed fist resulting in an "I have an idea..." Pose There, so what do you think?

Great start! The green works really well on High Elves.
Love the "Pull my Finger" mage! I bet he can produce a Mystifying Miasma flawlessly ever time! 😄

These are looking fantastic. I especially like the freehand, which is really neatly done and very effective.

So, I took a break from the spears to get a frostie done, anyone on the Facebook pages will have seen this already but sharing here to continue the blog. I've never sat easy with the large, thick snowflakes on the frostheart, was always too comical and stylised for me...so, here is my iteration of a 'low Fantasy' frost heart... The vapour coming from its wings being akin to cold mist, from the frostheart's frozen body. Not visible in pictures, there is a very slight application of fine glitter, to add to this affect.

neat! and I completely agree on the comical snowflakes. this is much better.
you could maybe touch up the eyes a bit. make sure the pupil reaches the top of the eye. would cut down on the number of mean people mocking this beautiful model as the surprised chicken.

Well. Yes I thought that..but some bird eyes aren't like that. See below for the eyes of a Booby (lol) that the blue limbs are inspired from... they're VERY stare-y
