Very intimidating chaos knight! Looking forward to see how you will treat the sword. Thanks! Weather is nice and sunny tonight I just may attempt it! You could always start dipping them ink to speed things up. I always use black primer now, I used to use white but I much prefer the coverage over black Yes, I think I've realized my mistake here with the brown primer. I think once I work my way through this can I will go back to just priming everything black. I seriously thought that brown primer would speed things up, I think I'll just lighten the rats a bunch so that I can still work with what I've got. Wow fantastic stuff. The model is so well done that I easily do the "gif" of the swing and follow through. Thanks for the kind words! Yes the idea here is that he's broken through a defensive line and is now running down a fleeing defender. There was so much more I wanted to do with these bases to portray this (dead bodies, etc...) but the bases are just too small so I cut out most of what I intended to do and just went with the "less is more" approach.

I finished my first unit of slaves this weekend! I think overall I spent maybe...10 total hours on this unit once I was done with the cleaning/basing/priming stage. I'm going to try and think of a way to speed this process up. But I'm hopeful of being able to crank one of these units out every week. The armor came out looking a little too orange. I made a pigment wash using Vallejo burnt Sienna pigment with some water, but I think there may have been too much pigment in the wash as now the armor looks orange. I know that when I seal the model it will darken the pigment a bit. Oh well. I'll eventually master this process it will just take some time. I don't intend to go back and fix these models (it's 20 slaves for crying out loud, I'd lose that in a single combat phase) but I will adjust it for future models. Here's the next 20 based and ready for primer: Their bases look white because the pumice that I texture the bases with hasn't dried yet. And here's the 20 after that assembled, cleaned, and waiting to be based (I was productive on Sunday, despite 8 hours of television (wife time) Comments and criticism welcome!

Managed to pick up Dark Elves yesterday! Traded away some Khador (Warmachine) for them.
Stay tuned for some elf goodness! (after I finish my painting challenge for this month and do a second Varanguard)

Also I took a second look at the slaves last night and the orange really just shines through in the pictures. Their not so orangey in real life so I think I'm good there. Just to be sure though I went back over them with a stiff brush and a small amount of water and rubbed off some of the pigment that was clinging to the model.
Also managed to put magnets into their bases. After a sealant they're ready to go into their transport tote.

WHO SAID ORANGE WAS BAD? I like the orange, it looks suitably rusty and it vibes good with that shade of green and the browns.

Don't get me wrong, I like the orange, I just don't want the orange to overpower the browns and greys (I tried NMM with the slaves). It's meant to supplement the other colors, not overpower it.
I agree with your other comment, it looks pretty good with the greens, browns, and greys that I used on the other parts of the model. It was unintentional, but welcome.

thanks! yes I like this method. The base takes a little too long but I like the way they look so I'll keep it. Here's another 20 slaves basically done. All that's left is to varnish them (the second coat went on this morning before work. They should be good to go once I get home) then apply a pigment wash over all the metals with this: Then I seal the pigments with this: Here's the next 20 slaves based and ready to go, just waiting for the basing material to dry here's a sneak peak as to what's planned next after I finish slaves 41-60:

Next group have had their rust wash applied and sealed. They're done! Next batch have been primed and inked. They're ready now for the first drybrushing phase. Tonight!

Finished the next 20 this weekend. Stormy weather has prevented me from sealing them and applying the rust wash to the weapons and armor so that will have to wait. Here's the next 20 getting ready for paint. Just need to work on their bases. Before I do them though I plan to do a Warp Lightning cannon.

Jesus, your attitude to painting slaves is as ritualistically elaborate as mine towards the Republican Guards
