It is?!? Mine all have the single cav base. Is that something that needs to be updated with 8th? I know the General/Captain on Great Stag model is on a 50mm square base. Why wouldn't they do that with the Unicorn as well?

Yep definitely a 50mm base in 8th ed. The model predates that by a mile hence the old cav base.
Edit: I've also updated my earlier post with some pictures

Huh! I've always taken it at face value. I suppose I've been "cheating" a bit then. Lol!

Isn't the bases rule technically whatever-the-model-was-sold-with?
This does make some discrepancies with older monsters on 40mm bases etc but I have never really felt any need to re-base my older models

I think the line is whatever the model is supplied with. This point has been argued loads on various forums (does it relate to what they are currently supplied with or when you bought them) and if you are playing friendly games I'm sure no one will really care as there are advantages and disadvantages to using smaller bases. If you are in a comp, then quite often base sizes are required to be standard if only so everyone is on the same playing field (as far as possible with WFB). We have a newly returned oldhammer Warriors player and his juggernaughts were on 40mm square bases. It allowed him to get more attacks onto a unit than if he were on the bigger base size and when being flanked fewer models could attack them, which gave him an advantage. He now pops them on some custom bases made for him. For things like marauders, if they are on 20mm bases, sure more can attack on a narrower frontage but templates will decimate more of them. As such smaller bases probably only make more of a difference for the larger models.

Yeah, I could see that being a real problem in tournaments. What if someone is rocking the old Karl Franz on Deathclaw? It's a LOT smaller than the new one, but technically still the same character. That would suck.
As for me, I just play friendly games so it doesn't really matter that much. If it did become an issue, I'd simply make the adjustment.

Done the lad and he is very delighted to join his brothers Though to be frank, he and the newly repainted Rodrigo are making the whole bunch of 10 year old Alcatani fellowship look like a dump. These boys desperately need a retouch soon.

Also just got this handsome dude from the UK. Quite excited to paint him as well. I'm proud to be the least monster-obsessed member of this board ! !

I love that model. There is so much dynamism in that stance. He could be leading his elves, or blocking an attack, shielding his eyes from the sun so that he can get that killing blow, etc. So much potential! He was one of the first High Elf models I painted up. That was a long time ago too seeing as they were the second army I collected.

So I would say I rival you for this title. Unless you count blowing up people's monsters with cannons as being obsessed with monsters.
