wilsonthenarc and I battled last night using only undead miniatures. The game featured 3000 points each of TK and VC. I had only been playing my undead as Undead Legion since End Times but I decided that, since Will’s TK army was vulnerable to crumbling, I would play as pure VC and give myself the same limitation. I’m not going to post a blow by blow but I’ll give my list and show pics of the battle. Will is going to add his own commentary as well. Uninterested in playing a competitive or optimal force, I reached for things from the back of my miniature shelf. You’ll notice some odd choices here...you’ve been warned. Vampire Lord on Abyssal Terror Lance, HA, shield, 4+ ward, red fury, dread knight, quick blood (invocation) Level 3 Necro (invocation, dance, gaze) Wight King with nightshroud, extra hand weapon Wight King BSB with GW, 5+ ward 49 skeleton spears 49 skeleton swords 3X 20 zombies 37 Grave Guard, GWs, Banner of the Barrows Corpse Cart Black Coach 5 Blood Knights 4 Blood Knights Quick notes: Lord on monster still not optimal, but was fun to use Black Coach crumbled with general death, see note above, before it got powered up Corpse cart is going to get some more looks, at one point the grave guard horde was striking at Initiative with GWs and rerolling hits. Blood knights are very expensive for having one wound each. My army crumbled badly. Will’s TK on warsphinx was really hard to kill, even with a blender Lord on monster. I lost. I want to make some black knights now. Pics:

This was a good game. Well needed, and fun, and relaxing. Plus we got to watch a great Mets VS Brewers game in the background.
My army also featured new (unique) choices. Stuff I don't normally build around. --The aforementioned Tomb Lord on a WarSphinx --6 Carrion --6 Scorpion Dune Chariots --Ushabti with Great Bows (not my all too usual Great Weapons)
I made an army with a strong focus on ENTOMBED BENEATH THE SANDS (EBTS). --The aforementioned 6 Scorpion Dune Chariots --Plus, x2 units of x4 Necropolis Knights
Dusty undead were popping up everywhere. All game. Ambush! **
The TLDR version of the battle report was: Rich's Grave Guard were unbeatable.
I rolled a Y for EBTS for my Scorpion Unit on T2 and they got plopped right in front of the fleshy GG. The fleshy GG charged in and smoked my Scorpions, even with my augment spell going live (smiting, +1A). After 1 round of combat, I killed 9 GG, out of 40. He still had horde, wide and deep. He did enough wounds that I had 1 Scorpion Chariot left standing with 2 wounds on it. Barely a speed bump.
Rich's GG would eventually finish off my Tomb King on Sphinx as well, bottom T4. They got ASF and (AND AND AND) they got to re-roll misses, with Great Weapons. About 100 S6 hits. Ewww.
Can you say skid mark?
But - on the bright side: my Necro Knights popped up deep in his back field. They beat up on zombie units and skeleton units... They eventually hunted down his necromancer. THEN, crumbles did start to have am impact.
My Hierophant stayed back all day, never got into a fight.
First time ever running Carrion. I thought they over-performed. 144 points for 6 birds seems like a deal! Each one has 3 As, at S4. They fly. Great flankers, they attack 2 deep, but might need to redo the movement tray. They're warbeasts, so need a unit 5 wide to disrupt. That's a lot of vultures. Future project maybe??
Ushabti with Great Bows. They did get a round of double tap shooting, 9 Ushabti, so 18 S6 bow shots. Obviously, aimed at the black knights. Killed a few. Felt good to have a strong shooting phase for once. BUT, flip side was: they're a warm sack of cotton balls in combat. S4 is just so not S6. My advice: always take combat flavored Ushabti. Always. OK, maybe not in a fun game like this.
What else? Overall, a great Friday night of Warhammering. Meow!

It's always nice to see undead punching each other. I agree with many things you guys said.
Blood knights are too expensive for what they do, and grave guards are awesome !
So bad that the black coach died early on, it's always fun to max this one out.

Sounds like you guys had a good time! I love fun games like that without the same 'ole netlists!
Grave Guard are ridiculously tough. In my 5000 point game (VC vs my Dwarfs), his GG went to town! I simply couldn't whittle them down since he took 6 casters (Vampires and Necros) all spamming Invocation every turn. Add to that, the 3 Mortis Engines he took, ensured that he could simply 1-dice it every turn. So what if 1 or 2 casters roll a 1 or 2? He's still got 4 more that will bring those few GG that I managed to kill previously, and then put wounds back on any Mortis Engine that might've taken a hit!
If taken by themselves, they can die, but backed with a few powerful units like those, they're ridiculously powerful! (Next time I see them on the board, I'm just chaffing them all game.)

I’m loving the scorpion chariots. Are they in a painting thread I haven’t come across yet?

Epic game with epic models. This game looked like it would have been a blast to be a part of!

Where did you get those Scorpions from? They look really good there! Scratch built. Pure imagination. --The scorpion is a bones mini, many are cut and re-pinned --The riders are stock plastic GW Tomb Guard --The chassis is a custom build of wood, arts, jewelry, and craft store extras --The rocks came from my garden, right next to the cucumbers
