Are we sure George Lucas is good at making movies?

It does really seem like he lucked into the original trilogy. Even that was untested territory for him. Has Lucas even done anything of note?
As far as too much, I actually like the one-a-year timetable they are on right now. The overlapping story arcs keep it spaced out, but prevent things from getting too stagnant. You never really forget that they are there this way. Otherwise, it'd be like, "Oh yeah, I forgot about that story arc! Well, it's been three years, I really need to go back and rewatch the previous ones, I suppose." Whereas, with them coming out each year like this, your memory doesn't get nearly as foggy. Now, all the Clone Wars cartoons that they produced a while back started to get rather hard to keep up with. There were so many of those.
They certainly left this Solo movie open-ended. It certainly looks to me like they are planning on doing a second. Now, what I really wonder is if they will call it Solo 2 or make the main story about another character with the rest of Han's story playing out within it? Han mentioned going to Tatooine. Maybe he gets involved with doing a job for Jabba and has Fett hunting him down? That'd introduce Fett and it could start to transition to another Super-popular character that way?

He gets credit for a new hope but empire and Jedi had different directors and we're co-written (I think).
It's tough for me to think he's a decent director or writer after watching episodes 1-3.

Those were Steven Spielburg. Not Lucas. They're connected through Harrison Ford.

Yup
All signs point to him not being a great director.
Love his ideas tho

I don't know a lot of the careful consideration (that is well documented) for the design of Star Wars original trilogy to me was just very smart directorship. I don't know how you reconcile that with the poor choices in the Prequels.

I realize he's a child actor, but there are good and bad child actors. Good - see the Harry Potter team in general, bad little Annakin. Also notable not that great actors to recent mind - 2014 Jungle Book kid. Again lots of CGI probably added layers of difficulty but the kid wasn't believable as a kid. ---------Good Child actors?? All of them are in Stranger Things!!!!

Ha. I was going to bring that up. A lot of the child actors from 80s tv shows and some movies were pretty terrible. I've developed a high tolerance, so baby Anakin was something I could deal with.
Stranger things cast is ridiculous.

Regardless of directing and writing, the most difficult part is to come up with the original idea/story/universe - that's why he gets the credit.
