This topic is for discussing the SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY movie. Spoilers are below...you have been warned!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------
I think this may be the best Star Wars movie to date! All the elements of a good Star Wars film is in here (with the except of a light saber duel). I decided after the first 5 mins that it was going to be awesome and I was right.
Follow up with more later....

So about midway through the film when we are introduced to the crime lord villain (not sure of his name), he states "you know who I work for." I immediately knew this was a known Stars Wars character, but my thought went to Prince Xizor from the popular Star Wars novel "Shadows of the Empire" which takes place between Episodes V and VI (no longer cannon).
But as soon as I saw the hooded figure and the music I knew it was Maul and was totally shocked they did that. I immediately looked for the cloaked figure's legs and when I saw of the robotic leg I thought "OMG, they brought Darth Maul into this." I sat through the credits to see if it was Ray Park and it was.
For those who don't know, Maul returned during the Clone Wars TV show (which is a great show with some many good stories, all 6 seasons are on netflix now...go watch it!). Maul is found to be alive by his brother, Savage Opress, and the two go through many trials together. Maul's story was not finished in the Clone Wars (the final seasons were never made because Lucas sold Star Wars off to Disney). But Maul returned in the rebels tv show, and were he seeks out Obi-wan and is finally (and rightly) killed by Old Ben.
This means though, out of the 19 year gap between Episode III and IV, Maul is alive for approximately 14 of those 19 years (Rebels is set five years before ANH).
What does this mean for the future? Will there be another Solo movie? Or are they setting up a Maul story?

I also stayed through the credits to confirm that Ray Park was still playing Maul. I really liked the movie. We decided to check it out at a 4D theater (moving seats, smoke, strobes, water, smells, etc). It was a cool experience, the best part was the sensation of a barrel roll when Chewie and Han were flying.

I haven't seen any of the TV series (are they any good?), so was really surprised and confused to see Darth Maul.
Wikipedia says the film was deliberately left open for the potential of sequels if it does well, plus they've got Ehrenreich contracted for further films, so that's looking good.

Thanks for recommending it! Watched it with some pals this evening.
If anyone promised themselves to never see a Star Wars movie again after Episode VIII, do yourselves a favour and watch the Han Solo film.
While the new trilogy seems to end up to be less than the prequels, Solo is the best Star Wars movie ever made.
The story clicks (meaning it works - very well - apart from a ship owed to Lando by Han after a game of cards, but I might have missed something obvious), is unpredictable and entirely suitable for a Han Solo story. You get to see one of the great industrial, overpopulated core worlds of Star Wars come to life, the way you always wished for and always wanted to see beyond the backwater battlefields of the original trilogy (the prequels took a step in the right direction in this department). This movie is fun, it's roguishly charming, it's gritty and it's got action and a roulette of double-crossing, backstabbing and guessing what is actually part of the plan, and what each character's game is. Oh, and aesthetically it's all crafted with attention to details and designs true to what has come before and expanding much upon it flawlessly.
One of the best movies ever made, in my book, along the likes of Jurassic Park and the Lotr trilogy. While the original Star Wars trilogy will remain a cinematic classic for all time (if technologically advanced human civilization, and files and physical copies of it survives the teeth of time), Solo: A Star Wars Story, is even more enjoyable, and better, than even the originals.
Burn me for a heretic now, and it's not just the pleasure of the new. Cheers!

The wife and I went to see it Monday. I loved it! The train robbery sequence was awesome. I've always wondered what made the Kessel run so amazing.
For me, Lando was a bit of a let-down. I thought he seemed a tad too much like a kid playing at being cool. Maybe that's what he was going for and totally sold me on it. Who knows?
I love seeing the friendship between Han and Chewy blossom. That was great.
I full well expect to see a follow-up story to this movie, whether it is a Solo 2 or not. They left too many open ends. I expect we'll get Han's love interest, Kira, to reveal how she got to the status she was and what she had to do to get there. (She kept mentioning that.) We'll also see more Maul involvement. Perhaps leading to his final demise? There can only be two Sith, after all. Do y'all still think that he's Sith?
Oh - and finally....HAN SHOT FIRST!!!

Fingers crossed for sequel! Sadly, letdown of Episode VIII, franchise saturation from rapid release of movies and poor release timing in cinema theaters seems to have decreased the income from the airing, thus far. Too bad, because this is a stellar movie that deserves to succeed financially.
Maul is likely running his own show, probably a mix of what he picked up while a Sith and native Dathomir stuff coupled with sworn brotherhoods of organized crime. I expect to see more Maul in the Boba Fett movie that is to come, and to see Maul finally mauled by Obi Wan in that movie.
The Solo flick is a great Star Wars movie if you're familiar with the setting since earlier, but I am completely certain that it stands well on its own legs. I'm elated like a child at Christmas from seeing this stuff.

While the new trilogy seems to end up to be less than the prequels, Absolutely not possible. I rewatched episode 2 recently. It might be the worst movie I've ever seen.

Agree with Coleman this might be my favorite Star Wars movie arguably ever but certainly since the original trilogy. Very very worth getting out and seeing. Agree with roughtimes the current trilogy is much more palatable then the prequels. I could deal with Jar Jar just fine but both Annakins were such a let down.

Which Anakin is worse? It's a real race to the bottom but I think it's the older one. He's a charisma black hole. Just so hard to watch.
