The Grand Theogonist's Confessional/"This month I bought..."

Oh man, I haven’t posted here in… quite some time, if ever. As a former 3D printed army aficionado, it was always just stl files that I had bought. Well, my bank account can assure you that this is no longer the case. This post is probably considered cheating because these purchases are collectively from the last few months. It begins with finding a good deal on the Lizardmen battle force and start collecting box sets as well as some paint from the deal. I decided that for the Lizardmen army I was going to build that I would use clear acrylic bases so I’ve bought oodles of those from Amazon and some acrylic sheets so I can cut bases for the larger models that don’t have pre made ones available on Master Bezos’ easy shopper site. Then there was a second find for Lizardmen, 2 more start collecting boxes. Core was all set now but I needed some of the fun stuff like salamanders, kroxigors, and razordons but the GW ones were priced where I couldn’t fathom paying that much for them. Etsy creators won my affection and, as a result, a considerable amount of my paycheck. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to get a slaan mage priest, which was a reminder for me that I would need some temple guard. TO MINIATUREMARKET.COM!!! 2 boxes of Saurus guard later I feel the only thing I still need to complete my Lizardmen army is just a single slaan mage prie…. What’s this?!?! Seriously? No way! You’re telling me that this guy is selling this entire dark elves army for how much?!?! Well at that price it would be a fiscally poor decision NOT to buy it. (Seriously, I was worried it was a scam until it arrived) oh my, their beautiful. So many classic 5th and 6th edition metal models that took me back to the days when I was just a young teenager getting rolled by dark elves with my orcs and goblins. Oh the joy of having that which caused so much heartache back then. Now it will be my turn! But how could I ever get this ready for the table? I’ve already got an entire Lizardmen army to paint up and I’m really taking my time on that one to make it look awesome. I GOT IT! I’ll just use contrast paints and whip through this 3,000+ points of dark elves I just got really quickly. That way, when I want to speed paint (this has never been something I’ve been able to do as I take way too long and try too hard no matter what) I can use contrast paints and knock out some dark elves, and when I want to take my time I can focus on the Lizardmen army. Seems fool proof…. But I don’t have the right contrast paints for dark elves. Well imagine my glee when I find out that my local GW store is running a special on the day I go there, but only 9 pots of contrast paint at $7.99 a piece and get the 10 one for FREE. Well I’m no fool so I couldn’t pass up on that deal. But I’m going to need some glue and primer for all these models too, and what am I going to do for the bases? Mordant earth, that’s what. 1 pot won’t die, 2 would cut it close, better be safe and get 3. ‘Don’t forget the varnish, Zildo’ I thought to myself as I was about to walk out. Dodged a bullet by remembering that. All in all, I’m around $2k spent in the last 3 months for a guy that was adamant about not spending ridiculous amounts of money on the game and that I should just use my printer to get minis.

How long does it take for a bunch of minis you bought to change from your “projects” to a pile of shame? Asking for a friend.
