In the past few years it seems like I don't find very much time to take part in the warhammer hobby. Sometimes I don't paint for months. So, with this huge lot of new minis I think it is time to commit a bit more hobby time (at least if I want them painted before I leave this world). For now I am setting a goal to spend a minimum of 10 hours a month on the warhammer hobby. I may increase this come winter but for now it is a good place to start. This really isn't that much, just 20 minutes each day would do it. I will be posting progress on here and I need your help in keeping me motivated. Your comments are appreciated.

So I decided to start this monthly goal on 7/5. For this week I found between 30 and 40 minutes each day on 7/5 through 7/8 for a total of 2 hours 20 minutes. So I am down to 7 hours 40 minutes left for July. I trimmed, assembled and based the guys below. The start of my first unit for my new dwarves. 10 dwarf warriors with hand weapons and shields with full command. I also spent some time painting some test minis to determine a color scheme. I will save pics of the test minis until they are done.

I will join you on this quest for more hobby. I have some dwarfs in need of paint and others in need of touching up. I will start this week and will be starting my progress thread tomorrow.

Before you guys get too deep into things I would like to suggest adding a little cork/stone to some of your bases. I'd like to see dwarves in more mountainous environments. Adds visual variation to otherwise flat bases too.

Just adding cork around would look odd. I may rebase. That would be better.

So for this week I found hobby time on July 9, 10 & 13 for a total of 3 hours 30 minutes. Brings me down to 4 hours 10 minutes minimum left for July. I primed the 10 metal guys and continued to paint the three plastic test minis. I am saving pics of these test guys until they are complete. Should be soon.

I like the grey and purple scheme best, it looks really good!

Purple and gray. Black base rim color. Make sure you have a good brown in there too.

Funny, I was leaning toward purple and grey as well. Rich, what do you mean about make sure you have a good brown in there too? Are you saying to use a bit of brown somewhere on the mini because it is a good complementary color to the scheme, or something else?
In the last week I found hobby time on three different days for a total of 2 1/2 hours. This brings me down to 1 hour 40 minutes minimum left for July. I finished the three test minis posted above and started working on one more plastic test mini.

I like to see dwarves with lots of neutral/earthtones. I feel like the army colors should be used as an accent while brown, khaki, and black should be the dominant colors on the models. Not sure how others feel but this is how I see dwarves. Empire should be garish in its coloring...I'd almost rather see dwarves with no bright colors. Jason really nails this with his scheme (mustard and hunter green). Unless you are looking for something more regal...
