I’ve been curious for a long time about if there is a correlation between what edition people started in, or perhaps it should be, what edition made up their formative years and what is their favourite edition of warhammer.
So for example, I started playing in 3rd but really it was 4th edition where I actually started to play the game (cut my teeth in). As such I love over the top heroes, big magic etc and so 8th always felt like a bit of a throwback to 4/5th.
I know a lot of players seemed to start in 6th and going by social media many of them detest 8th for the larger than life characters and over the top magic.
So with this highly scientific study I’m curious about which edition you started playing in.

I bought a starter box and several units, characters, etc. back in 6th edition, but i went back to college and got married, so that got put on hold for around six years while I established my home. So it really wasn't until 8th that I got into it. 8th had just released (well, the TK book was out and O&G had just been released, so I thought one of those Archnarok Spiders would look super cool with my 6th O&G starter force. I got plugged in with the local gaming community and the rest is history.

I got into 6th with my brothers in high school, and continued to play until GW killed 8th edition. Honestly, I have enjoyed every edition, but 8th is my favorite as it feels the most epic (crazy monsters, dramatic magic, and a plethora of named characters).

I started building my first army in 6th... but since it was Skaven the army wasn't ready until late in 7th Got a few games in and then 8th dropped.

I started in 6th edition and played that for a solid 3+ years on a very regular basis (+\- 3 times per month). I did play 7th edition as well but 7th edition was released my freshman year of college. I went away to college so didn’t have all my regular opponents to play against. So I only played 7th occasionally. I attended my first tournament during 8th edition and played in my first map based campaign in 8th. 8th is my favorite edition of the 3 I played in.

I started playing in the Edition I first bought the rules for (7th), as I played that Edition a few times at my local GW and a lot with my friends at school, then bought an Island of Blood box to start 8th when I found everyone was converting to 8th. I still have my mini rulebooks and army books from both editions and I find both have their strengths and flaws.

Started in 8th after 8th died. Saw a 40k box set that caught my attention back when I was like 12 but once I asked the price it was too much for me. I was into Magic at the time and the cards were cheaper heh.

Started playing in 1994, 4th edition, was introduced by a friend with the elves vs goblins starter, couple of defeats later & I had just started buying my first army sick of getting trounced by the elves with the weedy goblins. My favorite edition is 5th though, it´s like a more balanced version of 4th edition.
