The second part of our double-header gaming session.. Battle 2: Meeting Engagement (2500 points) 1 Campaign Point Chaos Horde Vs Hobgoblin Tribes My List:
Tamurkhan Chaos Sorceror (Lvl 2, Mark of Nurgle, Familiar, Dispel Scroll) Chariot (Mark of Nurgle) 10 Forsaken 24 Plaguebearers (Full Command) 6 Beasts of Nurgle 3 Dragon Ogres 2 Nurgling Bases 3 Plague Drones Dragon Ogre Shaggoth His list: (magic items may be partial) Goblin Great Shaman (Arachnarok Spider, Level 4, Spider Shrine, Talisman of Preservation) Ogre Bruiser Goblin Warlord (Gigantic Spider, Charmed Shield) Night Goblin Big Boss (Battle Standard) Night Goblin Big Boss 41 Goblins (Full Command) 30 Hobgoblin Cutthroats (Full Command, Additional Hand Weapons) 43 Night Goblins (Full Command, Nets) 5 Hobgoblin Wolfriders 5 Hobgoblin Wolfriders 5 Hobgoblin Wolfriders Snotling Pump Wagon 5 Ogres 6 Trolls Giant Bolt Thrower Doom Diver Doom Diver I took Blades of Putrefaction, Curse of the Leper and Rancid Visitations for my spells, I was quite happy with these and thought they would give me a nice mix against a goblin force. We rolled a meeting engagement with fairly sparse scenery, and I had to deploy my forces first. My Dragon Ogres & Shaggoth ended up held in reserve. I decided to deploy in the half which used the large hill as a central blockage and send my chariot, drones and forsaken around the long way and the rest up the short side. He clustered behind the hill with some Wolf Riders trying to get around both my flanks. I blocked one set of them with my scouting Nurglings. His Arachnarok and Night Goblins were delayed Tamurkhan bellowed at his forces to begin the advance, the Chaos hordes lumbered towards the Hobgoblins in their path. The Shaggoth and Dragon Ogres moved onto the battlefield on the short side, with the Shaggoth facing the nearby Wolf Riders who were attempting to flank the Chaos forces. The Sorceror cast Blades of Putrefaction on the Dragon Ogres trying to take advantage of the delayed Goblin Shaman, but immediately miscast and was sucked into the void! No more magic for the Chaos for the remainder of the game. The Shaman and the Night Goblins joined the battle as the Wolf Riders charged the Nurglings. Everything else advanced. The Wolf Riders on the other flank worked their way behind the Chaos line. The Doom Diver managed to land a hit on both the Plague Drones and Chariot reducing the Chariot to a single wound. The Bolt Thrower misfired and was disabled. The Nuglings downed a Wolf Rider but everyone held.

Great stuff yet again!
Would you change something about the giant hunt scenario? seems tough to catch a giant alive.
Does Tamurkhan get to roll on the EotG table? he killed so many (weedy) characters. Also, are you using the Great Host rules and did that tally come into play?
I know, I know, so many questions. Mr Blank should get bonus style points for that shirt. He's rocking those crotch shots by now.

I would probably suggest there was a change to the Giants escaping rule to make it harder for them to escape once netted if I was trying to make the scenario more fun. It is almost pointless to actually catch them before the last turn. Tamurkhan does indeed get Eye of the Gods, I rolled pretty much the most uninteresting results for every roll! The re-roll etc. We didn't play the Great Host rules and haven't played them yet, we will definitely give them a run out at some point. I think I will start mixing the lists up a little to break up the Nurgle Mr Blank should get bonus style points for that shirt. He's rocking those crotch shots by now. Got to give the people what they want

We managed to get in a game and play (potentially) the last battle of Campaign phase 2! Mr Blank leads 2CP - 1CP at the moment with one game to play (assuming we don't end up tied on points) With the conclusion of the last game, Tamurkhan's Ogre form is now unlocked for me. We rolled the next battle and came up 6, which is the scenario The Dark Monolith's of Zhulgozar from the Rulebook. This meant the phase was being decided one way or another! Hard by the north-eastern edge of the Shardback Mountains, where the rust red hills rose for many leagues, Tamurkhan faced the feared Orcs of the Withered Eye, frenzied and primitive, tainted by warpstone dust and shunned even by their own kind for their wanton savagery. Unafraid although vastly outnumbered the hulking greenskins streamed from the hills, their obsisidian axes held high, braying and howling in the battle-lust, their malformed boards grunting and snarling in bloodlust while their shaman spat curses from behind crude copper marks. The Orc tribe and Tamurkhan’s vanguard met in a single great annihilating clash and all was butchery and bloodshed. Battle 3: The Dark Monolith's of Zhulgozar (2500 points) 2 Campaign Points Warriors of Chaos Vs Orcs & Goblins My List: Orhbal Vipergut, Chaos Lord on Chaos Dragon (Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Preservation) Chaos Sorcerer (Level 2, Familiar, Dispel Magic Scroll) Chaos Chariot 5 Chaos Warhounds 18 Chaos Warriors (Full Command) 5 Forsaken 5 Forsaken 6 Chaos Ogres (Musician, Standard, Mark of Slaanesh) 6 Dragon Ogres 14 Chosen (Champion, Standard Bearer) Dragon Ogre Shaggoth His list: Savage Orc Warboss on Wyvern (Dragonhelm, Sword of Striking, Dragonbane Gem) Savage Orc Great Shaman on Wyvern (Level 4) Savage Orc Big Boss Battle Standard (Glittering Scales) 33 Savage Orc Big'Uns (Full Command, Additional Hand Weapons, Big Stabba) 30 Orc Boyz (Full Command) 15 Black Orcs (Full Command) 10 Orc Boar Boyz (Full Command, Spears, Shields) 10 Savage Orc Boar Boyz (Full Command, Additional Hand Weapons) 6 Trolls Rock Lobber I tried to keep my Dragon and big bits away from the rock lobber, and set up my Forsaken for some screening work. He deployed mainly on my left with his worrying block of savaged pretty much in his centre I had a go messing around with Battle Chronicler too

Turn 2 Orhbal Vipergut led the charge as he and his Dragon attacked the Savage Orc Boar Boyz. The Dragon Ogre Shaggoth also charged the Orc Boyz. The Forsaken advanced into inconvenient positions for the advancing Orcs, and the rest of the Horde continued it’s advance. The winds of magic were not kind and an attempted Penumbral Pendulum was dispelled. The Chaos Lord slaughtered the Orc Champion which stepped up to face him, the favour of the gods granting him some extra initiative (excellent). The Savage Orc Boar Boyz held their ground thanks to their nearby boss. The Dragon Ogre Shaggoth somehow only managed to kill a single Orc, but fought on. The Savage Orcs had had enough of all this restraint and charged. The Warboss led the way ( Mr Blank forgot to use his Waaaagh) charging the Chariot, who fled, and redirecting into the Chosen. The Savage Orc Great Shamen charged into the Forsaken and the Orc Boar Boyz attacked the Warhounds. The Black Orcs charged the Forsaken on the other flank. Gork, or Mork, clearly impressed with all this charging dealt Mr Blank a wonderful hand of 11 power dice. The Great Shaman cast a large Hand of Gork on the Savage Orcs, which despite the Chaos Sorcerer using all of his power to dispel, managed to succeed, plucking the large units of Savage Orcs up in the air and depositing them behind the Chaos line. He then cast a large Foot of Gork on the Dragon Ogres, stomping 2 of them to death and causing them to panic and flee. He still wasn’t done as the stomping continued on the Ogres killing another 2, but their allegiance to Slaanesh keeping them steady. The Orc Warboss managed to kill the Chosen Champion in the challenge and they held. The Savage Orc Boar Boyz now faced the full brunt of the Chaos Lord and Dragon and were reduced to 3 Orcs, who broke amid the onslaught. The Savage Orc Great Shaman atop his Wyvern, slaughtered the Forsaken, taking a wound in the process, and overran. The Black Orcs similarly butchered the Forsaken on the other flank with the sole survivor fleeing. The Shaggoth fared better this time around stomping the Orc Boyz who broke from the combat.

Turn 3 The Chaos Lord, fresh from his victory, charged the Orc Warboss. The Chaos Warriors, wary of the Savage Orcs behind them, charged the Trolls. The Shaggoth charged the Great Shaman and the Chaos Ogres charged the Black Orcs. Infuriatingly the Dragon Ogres continued to flee after their stomping. The Chariot rallied and turned to rejoin the fray. The winds of magic were meagre and nothing was successfully cast. The Chaos Lord challenged the Warboss and unleashed his full might, including both blasts of dragon breath from his mount. Having reduced the Orc to his final wound the Dragonbane Gem saved him from death by dragon breath. He struck back wounding the Dragon but fled amidst the onslaught and was cut down by the pursuing Chaos Lord. The Chosen turned to face the enemy behind. The Trolls also fled after another was killed by the charging Warriors. The Shaggoth failed to kill the Great Shaman, reducing him to a single wound, taking some in return from the poisonous Wyvern. The Ogres and Black Orcs fought a brutal combat, with several Orcs crushed from the impact of the Ogre charge and a few more cut down. They responded by downing 2 of the Ogres (who forgot to do their stomps), and held their ground, just. The Orcs were not done, the Savage Orc Big’Uns charged the Chosen and the Orc Boar Boyz charged the Warriors in the flank. The Savage Orc Boar Boyz and Orc Boyz both rallied, the Trolls continued to flee. The Shaman cast Fists of Gork on himself. The Rock Lobber managed to land a hit directly on the Chariot smashing it to pieces. The Chosen were no match for the Savage Orcs and were broken. The Orc Boar Boyz Champion refused the challenge of the Chaos Warriors and the Boar Boyz broke them under the weight of the flank charge, but the Warriors escaped. The Shaggoth downed the Savage Orc Great Shaman but his Wyvern fought on, guarding the body of his fallen master. The Black Orcs finished off the Ogres Control of the Monolith was still all to play for.. Turn 4 (forgot the photos, it was getting tense) After some brutal turns of combat the Chaos forces regrouped. The Warriors and Chosen both rallied, as did the Dragon Ogres, finally. The Chaos Lord flew to obstruct the advance of the Savage Orc Big’Uns. The Sorcerer unleashed a Penumbral Pendulum at the Savage Orc Big Boss but only succeeded in downing a couple of Orcs. The Savage Orcs charged the Chaos Lord and the Orc Boyz made a long charge into the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth. The Savage Orc Boar Boyz also made a long charge into the Chosen. The Black Orcs advanced towards the now unguarded Monolith. The Orc Boar Boyz swung around away from the Chaos Warriors. The Rock Lobber was off target. The Savage Orc Big’un Champion was seen off by the Chaos Lord but the Chaos Dragon was wounded several times by the Big Stabba charge. The Shaggoth wounded the Wyvern and held firm under the charge of the Orc Boyz. The Savage Orc Boar Boyz and Chosen were in stalemate

So with a draw, Mr Blank retains his 2 CP-1 CP lead and he wins the second campaign phase! Boo. Really fancied the ward save veteran ability for Tamurkhan.... It was a fun battle which seemed to ebb one way then the next. I thought I had it won when I killed his general but I couldn't seem to make him take any leadership tests after that. That one magic phase where he both Handed and Footed me was really damaging, particularly as the Dragon Ogres were incapable of rallying Onto the next campaign phase... The Lords of Fire and Ash. Fetchez the Chaos Dwarfs! We might play a few extra battles in this phase and escalate to 3000 points. I need to try out the Chaos Host rules too so will be a good opportunity.

The all orc army was definitely a lot easier to use than the all goblin army i had in the last game, i still almost lost the game with some reckless charges, especially the wizard. Luckily the savage oc big uns and the black orcs were unstoppable, along with Horace rolling terribly all game for everything except fleeing!

I’m really enjoying this series. Total bonus that I got to catch up with 3. That giant scenario seemed brutal!

I’m really enjoying this series. Total bonus that I got to catch up with 3. That giant scenario seemed brutal! It is too hard in reality! Mr Blank needs to take his wins where he can get them though The escaping the nets rule needs modifying to make it more balanced. 5 Giants sure can put out a lot of damage!

We managed to get a game in over the holidays so it was time for some Chaos Dwarf action! Campaign Phase 3The Lords of Fire and AshBattle 1: The Crossing of Fire (3000 Vs 2250 points) 2 Campaign Points Chaos Horde Vs Chaos Dwarfs My list: Tamurkhan (Tyrant form) Daemon Prince (Nurgle, Level 3, Scaled Skin, Chaos Armour, Wings) Exalted Hero (BSB, Nurgle, Enchanted Shield) 19 Chaos Warriors (Nurgle, Halberds) 20 Bloodletters Chaos Chariot Chaos Chariot 6 Chaos Trolls (Additional Hand Weapons) Souldgrinder (Nurgle, Phlegm Bombardment, Daemonbone Claw) 3 Nurglings Mr Blank 's list Drazhoath the Ashen Daemonsmith Castellan (BSB, Dawnstone) Hobgoblin Khan (Charmed Shield) 30 Infernal Guard (HW/S) 21 Infernal Guard (Blunderbusses) Dreadquake Mortar (Slave Ogre) Deathshreiker Rocket Hellcannon I rolled Rancid Visitations and Miasma of Pestilence, then took Curse of the Leper with my double. Mr Blank rolled Ash Storm, Hell Hammer, Curse of Hashut and Breath of Hatred, then took Fireball on his Daemonsmith. I won the roll off and setup on my bit of the table. In hindsight I would not have given him the impassable hill edge to use! Turn 1 I moved up my units then only rolled a 3 for the winds of magic so only managed to remove a single Blunderbuss with Rancid Visitations, taking a wound on the DP with a miscast in the process. The Phlegm Bombardment missed the mark. In Mr Blank ’s turn he moved Drazhoath out to block the Nurglings on the flank and his Khan to block a Chariot. He didn’t get many magic dice but still managed an Ash Storm on the Trolls. Between the Hellcannon and the Blunderbusses he reduced the Chariot to two wounds. His Dreadquake then landed a direct hit on the Chaos Warriors taking out 8 and quaking them. Then the salt in the wound with his Deathshreiker removing the Soulgrinder with a Demolition Rocket! Ouch. Turn 2 The DP charged the Hellcannon and the Chariot charged the Hobgoblin Khan. The second chariot failed the charge into the Hellcannon. The Nurglings charged Drazhoath. Everything else moved up except the Warriors, who thought better of risking the Quake. The winds of magic somehow managed to get worse than 3, coming up with a double 1. The DP managed to channel a die and cast Curse of the Leper on the Hellcannon. The Chariot managed to just about see off the Hobgoblin Khan. The DP managed to only remove 1 Chaos Dwarf and wound the Hellcannon once. The Nurglings put up a much braver effort wounding Drazhoath multiple times but his armour and Hellshard Amulet protected him.. The Chaos Dwarfs sat tight and continued to pour shooting into the Chaos horde. Drazhoath again tried to cast Ashstorm on the Trolls but the Daemon Prince used his Dispel scroll, then managed to dispel the Fireball attempt from the Daemonsmith. The Deathshreiker managed to wound a Troll with an incendiary rocket and the Dreadquake landed a direct hit on Tamurkhan, which the Toad Dragon shrugged off. The Blunderbusses were partially out of range of the Chariot so could only tag it for 2 wounds. The Hellcannon and DP continued their stalemate in combat. The Nurglings continued to fight Drazhoath without much success

Turn 3 Both Chariots, the Trolls and Tamurkhan charged the Blunderbusses, who obliterated one of the Chariots with a stand and shoot as it charged. Tamurkhan failed to make the charge and stumbled towards the Chaos Dwarf line. The Warriors and Bloodletters marched up to try and close the distance. The winds of magic gave me a much healthier 8 dice and the Reign of Chaos almost went to work on the Chaos Dwarf war machines but their high Leadership saved them. The Daemon Prince cast Miasma of Pestilence on the Trolls and miscast, again taking a wound and injuring the Hellcannon. He then attempted Curse of the Leper but this was dispelled. The DP kept chipping away at the Hellcannon, removing another Chaos Dwarf handler and wounding the Hellcannon again. The weight of the charge from the Chaos Trolls and Chariots broke the Blunderbusses, who fled from combat and off the board. Drazhoath finally saw off the Nurglings The Infernal Guard charged off their hill into the Chaos Trolls. With himself finally freed from combat Drazhoath flew over to the centre and destroyed the remaining Chariot with Curse of Hashut. Tamurkhan took another hit from the Deathshreiker with the Toad Dragon once again unmoved. The Chaos Trolls, despite having the protection of Miasma of Pestilence, could not stand against the charge of the Infernal Guard and fled from combat. The Hellcannon managed to wound the DP reducing it to a single wound. Turn 4 This time Tamurkhan did make the charge into the Infernal Guard. The Chaos Trolls rallied and turned back towards their foe. The remaining forces kept moving back towards the action. The Reign of Chaos again tested the Chaos Dwarf artillery but their Leadership held firm. Afraid of the miscast taking his final wound, the Daemon Prince didn’t manage to cast anything. This caution was to prove unnecessary though, as the DP removed the last Chaos Dwarf handler in the combat, the Hellcannon went berserk and chopped the Daemon Prince down in retaliation. Tamurkhan dispatched the first Chaos Dwarf champion to step forward in the challenge. The frenzied Hellcannon charged the Chaos Trolls alongside Drazhoath. The Chaos Warriors once again took the brunt of the artillery shooting being reduced to just 6. The Chaos Trolls could not stand against the charge, failing to even remove the last wound of the Hellcannon and losing 4 Trolls. The last remaining Troll fled and escaped. Tamurkhan easily cut down the Castellan BSB in the challenge and narrowly escaped spawndom, with just insanity instead. Turn 5 The Bloodletters charged the Hellcannon but fluffed their attacks and failed to kill it. Tamurkhan, now free from challengers, smashed the Infernal Guard but the Dawi Zharr remained steadfast and didn’t flee. Drazhoath had seen enough and flew away to safety. He cast Ash Storm and Curse of Hashut on Tamurkhan. The artillery further reduced the Chaos Warriors and the Bloodletters finally finished off the Hellcannon. Tamurkhan butchered the last of the Infernal Guard. Turn 6 Tamurkhan unfortunately afflicted by Ash Storm, could not charge the Chaos Dwarf artillery so had to settle for contesting the Watchtower. The Bloodletters failed an unlikely charge at the Dreadquake. Drazhoath moved up to contest the Watchtower. The Chaos Dwarf artillery landed yet another direct hit as ittried to finish off the Chaos Warriors, and but for a cocked dice, might have succeeded but one was left standing. The Exalted Hero BSB was killed.
