I got home from work last night and there it was. My new issue of the totally revamped White Dwarf magazine. At a glance, it brought me back to the year 2000. Same size (close to 8.5x11) same thickness (200 pages), so that's a good start.
It came with a free mini - a Warrior of Chaos... Looked like a Khorne Pit Fighter / Priest dude. Pretty Cool. Knowing GW, he would be a $20 mini on his own. Salamone, he's already marked for you. Fair tradesies.
Content wise, the articles seemed like a close to 50/50 split of 40K and Fantasy. Sadly, I had to host a Bon Voyage party for a friend last night, so I didn't get a chance to go cover-to-cover. I was out & about til 11:30 PM. I got home and gave it one more leaf through. What I saw could be described as "Good" but not "Great". But I really want it to be good - so I am not most fair and impartial judge that's even been.
Any else back on the White Dwarf train?

Is it more than a catalogue of newest minis though? As in does it have words to read that are not just advertising blurbs.

100 pages in... not bad. Slaughterpriest and Grombrindal rules for Silver tower i like. The AOS battle report was good and better than the more recent WD battle reports as it actually had arrows to show the moves and the 2 generals talking about army selection. The reason so far im liking the issue is there is a small art section where they show the new Deathwatch art (which i haven't seen before) and the artists talk briefly about their pieces and what they were going for. I found that interesting. So far 100 pages in i'd say more words by far than the monthy WD before its change to weekly. Still not as good as the old ones though The fat bloke... Paul Sawyer even gets a sneaky mention in this mag which is a good sign.

FAT BLOKE FTW (the sausage reference... i.e. spending his "Tale of Four Gamers" money on food)

Interesting I might be tempted to get it again. I used to love those days.

I'm with Horace, I like to look at the pictures but it's sad that I don't play the games shown in the magazine...while being mad that the one I DO play is left out.

Yes, I subscribed to the new WD. The content and range of articles is awesome, but it is so sad WFB is not apart of GW products anymore.

There are only 2 ways White Dwarf can really redeem itself for me, the first is if WFB returns (not some horrible AoS mish-mash) or they release a game I am interested in such as Necromunda. The second is if they manage to start producing some proper general hobby articles again. I am always up for some nice terrain building tutorials or some proper painting articles like those which went into the 'Eavy Metal Masterclass book (love this book) Until they convince me they are producing some of these on a long term basis I think I would rather cling onto my £60 a year and use it to feed my eBay habit instead

Hah I guess, I missed Mordheim the first time around but I would be game for trying it if it was good. Not sure I have enough people to play with anymore to make me appreciate it fully

I liked Mordheim but I found the rules to be too much. I still played it, mind you, but I felt like my nose was in the book too much.
