I cleared my schedule today, packed up as much of my Empire force that would fit on a display base, and headed over to my local GW store for Armies on Parade. There were 12 participants, only 2 of us were fantasy-related, though a demon army could have been used in either system. I presented this: Others submitted these: I ran into a guy I went to college with: So results...I was informed that I came in 4th. Interestingly, adeptus mechanicus, another adeptus mechanicus, and a slaanesh force scored higher. The ad mech armies had maybe 20 models in each of them and were based using the new GW crackly base paints. They looked nice. My army was wall to wall men, maybe 300 on there. I was certain when I got there that unless I had space marines or 30k stuff, my army wasn't going to get love from a jury of my peers. I could imagine them hating my ranks of old guy models. Justice ultimately prevailed when the store manager presented me with this: I also bought the latest white dwarf, a warrior priest blister, and a 2x2 40k board...I'm showing up with space marines next year. I figure the crowd can't snub them...unless they do based on the fact that I'll have like 100 marines and 8 vehicles crammed onto the board. Haters gotta hate.

And now we know your face..and weapon of choice. The size of the armies is quite diverse, was there a minimum? I would have voted for yours. The level of painting skills on display was also a bit random but that's good. Means that Icould get better if I ever started again

I thought about competing did your board have to be 2 by 2? I didn't have that size display board for any of my toys.

Good job representing EEFL! You made us proud.
...and also a reminder what the barrier of entry is for the different GW games.

Well done Rick! I brought my Night Goblins in for the parade this year, just to see how much of the army I could fit on the board. It got a bit crowded as you can see, and some 300 gits were still in the boxes. Sadly I was the only one there with square bases, everything else was just 40k and AoS. I was happy to walk away with the silver (out of 23 entrants), 1 measly vote behind the winner.

Round bases truly just disgust me these days...

Round bases truly just disgust me these days... We need a word for this...it's not ageism...editionism? Congrats with the second place.

I would have voted for you I am also not a fan of round bases except in special fanatic based cases

Yep. This.
Its rather difficult to display large Warhammer Fantasy armies and still manage to tell a story through context on such a small board. I think 40K and AoS have the edge there.
I'm just sayin'...if I were to vote for a few 40K models over a couple hundred? - Well, they better be Mona Lisa quality!

A portmanteau of "Ninety Degree", representing the square bases we all know and love. Nindegism is a preference for any miniatures or army on square bases over circles.
Anticirculean. A distaste for any miniatures of army on circle or otherwise rounded bases.

Does England/the USA have a word of the year competition? I vote for these two!

Rich, is the winner determined by voting among those who enter armies or is it a scoring system by a judge? Just curious.
Anton, I love how many minis you packed onto the board!

It was voted on by the participants. The store manager intervened-that's how I ended up with a prize. The winners got one of three medals.

Was it only the participants in your store? Anyone walking through the door can vote here.
