After years languishing in my basement my Hordes have Chaos have been summoned to battle again!
My foe is a dark elf player of which I know nothing of save that he isn't bringing any witch elves...
So far my list looks like this:
Sorcerer Lord lvl 4, disk, Tal of Preservation, lore of Tzeentch Sorcerer lvl 2 mounted on Warshrine, Arcane familiar, Skull of Katam, lore of Slaanesh BSB on Daemonic Steed, Talisman of Endurance, MoT 20 Warriors, Mot & shields 18 Warriors, banner of rage, MoK & Halberds Regenerating Chimera 6 trolls Spawn, MoS Chaos Giant, MoN 2 units of dogs
very much aware of the lore and some of these units being subpar, but after so many years without playing I didn't want to break out the Demon Princes, Skullcrushers, etc... just looking for a fun game for everyone involved.
having never played dark elves with chaos this is something of a first, so I was just wondering if any of you had any advice.

Well, I applaud your restraint from using the DP and Skullcrushers! Honestly, I can't remember the last time I saw a game with WoC that didn't have them! You should be in for a good game!

I'm not a Chaos player - in fact, have never played against Chaos. but I think it's Mark of Tzeentch?

No need for AoD on the BSB? Chaos Armor and steed net him a 3+ armor save while the Talisman and the Mark give him a 4+ wardsave, So he should be good

I think it's going to be fun list. You will probably lose the dogs to missile fire early. He's got the fast moving bits to try and bait the frenzied bits.
I think it's a great list for a fun game.

beware executioners. They're S6 with killing blow and will strike either at same time or before you. He rerolls wound rolls of 1 so watch out for that. They'd be a good target for your magic.
Dark Magic is nasty, but he also has access to all the brb lores, so there's no telling what you may see. He's +1 to cast dark magic so that can make dispelling that much harder.
I'd make doomfire warlocks a priority for your mounted characters to kill. They're fast cav with S4, poison, 2A and a 4+ ward save. Where they really shine though is they're also a lvl 2 wizard who always knows soulblight (lore of death, -1S,-1T on a unit, can boost and make it an aura) and doombolt (dark magic, 2D6 S5 hits, can boost and make it 4D6) when they miscast all they do is take a wound (maybe D3?) but they get their ward save against it. Beware these guys throwing 6 dice at boosted spells.
If he's not taking witch elves then you don't have to worry much about his core as you have enough martial prowess to deal with him, although his choice of magic lore could influence this (mindrazored spear elves make chaos warriors cry)
Otherwise he's just an elf, squishy but he'll hit hard.
EDIT: the reroll 1s is across the entire army, not just the executioners. Murderous prowess is a sweet sounding, sweet game ability rule!

Those are some great pointers, I'll make those warlocks priority targets for my chimera/BSB should they show up. Hopefully my dispel dice are up to the rest!

Ok that's weird. No 3++ ward rerolling 1's on the disc lord. What sort of chaos player are you!! 😉

One that still has a conscience apparently. The Chaos Gods haven't corrupted him fully yet
