Thx all for the kind words keeps the project going. It is pretty fun to do terrain and think I am improving and picking up some speed. I will be able to use the scenery in games after next batch.

Oh, man, that's gonna look awesome! Talk about choke point! He who controls the bridge, wins the game!
I actually played a game that looked much like this. My Empire vs a O&G player. He crushed me. Basically, he took 3(?) Goblin Warlords on Gigantic Spiders who were kitted out with some good equipment. He simply ran them up and parked them on the bridge. He also took 2 Rock Lobbaz, 2 Doom Divers and some Spear Chukkas. He also had a horde of Squigs waiting on the his side of the river when I finally managed to get a unit across. He just bombed the heck outta my forces. I couldn't do anything about the Gigantic Spiders. They had some combination of defensive equipment and even though I'd usually beat one through combat res, there was always another waiting right behind him so that I never managed to catch any of them. They'd just rally and get back in line. By the end of the game, I had managed to push them off the bridge, but it was too little too late. He had decimated the rest of my army.
All of that to say, these kind of games can be quite different and shake things up nicely! I know your opponent likes to play defensively and use lots of artillery, so it might be a good idea to make an objective out of it. "Control the bridge" or something like that. Similar to a Watchtower scenario. Just a thought.

So what are the rules for rivers Is it just dangerous terrain test and fail on 1 like a forest? No, there is a whole section in the BRB about them (p.120). The most basic rule is that you cannot march through a river. They can also never count rank bonuses or count as being steadfast while in a river. But they can be special rivers much like forests. As soon a you enter a river (much like a forest) you roll a D6 and find out what it is. Results: 1 = Normal River 2 = Boiling Flood (Any model at least partially in the river will suffer a S4 hit. Models immune to Flaming attacks do not suffer this.) 3 = Necrotic Ooze (Dangerous Terrain. The unit also gains Poisoned Attacks until the end of the next player phase.) 4 = Raging Torrent (Dangerous Terrain. The unit gains +3 Initiative until the end of the next player phase.) 5 = River of Blood (Unit causes Fear) 6 = River of Light (The unit is immediately the target of a random Light Magic spell. It is automatically cast and cannot be dispelled.) So you see, these can be either good or bad. At any rate, it will slow you down, unless you have river strider.

Or ignore the magical rivers bit and just use the normal river rules . I’ve been surprised for many years that anyone in the old world was able to survive when almost every bit of nature can kill. I suppose technically it is a death world and so would either have its own Imperial Guard regiment based here or (lightbulb) be space Marine recruitment planet (#alien abduction, #just solved the mystery of the old ones).

My large game I just played utilized a river, and it was just a normal one.
It makes an enormous impact on the game, the no steadfast no rank bonus no marching is crazy.
Royally screwed my big clanrat unit who found themselves without a rank bonus for their LD and who were all of a sudden not steadfast.
Next time I'll be more careful about my decisions to pursue an enemy after winning a round of combat...

One thing that I've discovered with playing river terrain: be careful where you place it at the set-up. In most games I've played, if the rived was running from opponent to opponent, it effectively just cuts a portion of the board off. People just stay on one side. Only fliers and war machines will set up on the far side. It's much better if the river is running in between the two deployment zones, so that it has to be crossed at some point. Much more fun that way.
Oh - something that you and your opponent probably need to discuss (and something that I and my friends have house-ruled) is if you will allow war machines to be set up in the river. IMO, it's a cheap trick, because if a big unit decides to charge the war machine in the river, they suddenly don't get their rank bonus when calculating CR. Personally, I think that if a big unit with many, many more bodies is charging a Cannon, then they should be able to count their bonuses. Also, it doesn't really make much sense that a war machine would set up in a river. Like I say, cheap trick. That's along the lines of modeling a cannon on top of a 12" tall column and then claiming, "Based off True Line of Sight, my cannon can see any point on the field!" It totally throws logic out the window.

That looks amazing. Actually having the tree on one of the river sections might be a really nice feature as it looked really good in the background of the mill picture. I also love the water coming off the wheel, another nice touch

Maybe the green sides of the mill house became too dark to be abel to spot them. Might have to come back and lighten it up with new green color. But think I will call this the @ryryrak river with the mottdon mill and the knoffles bridge. Not sure who I am going to name the passage of skulls after yet 😊 I am looking at the end of this project with the upcoming 3 small turns and the base for the bridge. Also trying to fins some spare troll parts to lurk under the big bridge. Think my neighbour had some spare heads.

haha nice It's a great looking river I love how it's turning out. What did you use for the water on the wheel? So for curls I use vallejo water effects. I smeared out some on a card and when it dried I used a knife to cut pices/stripes off and glued them and added more depth/curls with more vallejo water effects.

nice!
I'm planning to get some water effects for an upcoming basing project (swamp bases for my Nurgle Daemons).
How are you liking the Vallejo water effects? I've heard it's no good for deep pours and that you have to apply it in multiple thin coats (no more than 1/8") have you found this to be true as well?
The end results are nice though; I'm thinking about a 2-part epoxy resin instead though for my water effects. I want to be able to add color and detritus to the water (although I could just get some smaller dropper bottles and make up a batch for use at any time in one of those...)
