Hi all!
We continue down the rabbit hole and today we're talking all about the residents of Lustria and followers and seekers of the Master Plan: the Lizardmen. This one is an interesting one for me personally because my 2019 year resolution is to build a Lizardmen army. In other words, it's the army that KevinC and rahotep75 will lose sleep over and cry.
So what is the most feared unit in their roster? A tooled up slann in a unit of 20+ Temple Guard? Is it a Carnosaur-riding Old Blood? Or.... maybe it's the mighty TROGLODON!
discuss!

Honestly, the basic lizard trooper is the best unit in the game. A horde unit with sword and board is just gross. Add a character for some extra killy, and they’ll mow through any other unit.

I dont think that this is the case. Saurus are good against most core units but lose against most (similarly priced) elite units. Try to put them up against savage orc big uns for example and they will get massacred. Saurus characters on the other hand are really good especially on cold ones and with rerollable 1+ armor. Other good units would be a tooled up slann in temple guard, which is the most versatile caster in the game supporting a good elite infantry unit. They are of course hugely expensive. If you are fighting elves salamanders are also an effective unit and vanilla skink skirmishers make greater demons cry.

I fight them weekly with either: Vampire Counts, Empire, or Warriors if Chaos. Their Str 4 T4, 2 base attacks +more potentially and the 3 dice leadership tests mean they are just a wall of “no” for me. In a horde formation, ick..... As the basic trooper, they win sick amounts. I’ve done the Chaos Warrior vs Lizards.... the leadership rule is the trump card for them. Again, my opinion- and in all fairness, I can’t roll decently.....

Skink Skirmishers... and suddenly 80% of the air you are breathing is composed of tiny little poisoned darts

Skink skirmishers railroading and running amok are annoying but I find the duel cowboy saurus heroes on cold ones with their 1+ armour? Great weapons and insert other magic item to be one of the most frustrating options to deal with. They are very tough, hit hard and are pretty cheap. They are pretty much super chaff and are inevitably cannon target no.1, above even any of the monsters (yes I’ve had that much trouble with them).

Yep. The Saurus Vet Cowboy. He can deal with almost anything and give opponents fits. They're cheap too, as far as characters with equal amounts of power go. A tooled up Oldblood on Cold One can go toe-to-toe with pretty much any character in the game. Named or otherwise. Slann are among the top casters in the game, and rightfully so. Lizardmen characters in general are nothing to overlook. The rest of the army is hard to deal with, but the characters will usually deal the final killing blow.
As far as weaknesses go, I'd have to say artillery shooting is their greatest weakness. They simply don't have all that many options. The Salamander is their best, but only to hordes of infantry. If you're trying to take down a big monster, you'll have to rely on either Bolt Throwers or a million, coordinated poison darts. Either way, still hard to take down with shooting. But magic impact usually lends a hefty hand here.
I really like L-men because there are so many viable ways to play them. You want CC army? Go GO Carnosaur! You want magic? Go GO Slann! You want Hit & Run? Go GO Skink Cloud! The options are plentiful and dramatic.

Since their reemergence in WFB 5th, Slann Mage Priests have been one of the best units in the game. They rarely flee or break, they are super tough to kill, and their magic is extremely potent.
Additionally, I've always believed that standard Saurus Warriors are extremely underrated. That are excellent infantry. For 11 points, they dish out 2 S4 Attacks, with the potential for more (predatory fighters). They are tough to kill (T4, 4+ armour, plus parry), and the cold-blooded rule makes them difficult to route.
If I see 2-3 or more blocks of Saurus - I'm afraid!

Skink skirmishers, they've been one of the best units in the game ever since 5th edition...

Chameleon skinks and Scar vets on Cold One's for me. Both can make my precious monsters cry and for far less points

On paper the Trogladon (the one that roars) scares the crap out of me, but have never fought one. I also think unit of temple guard with out a slann could be scary, when i see a slann in them i worry less, they lose several of their attacks and the slann will most likely kill a third of the unit with a miscast at some point. Kroxigors also make me wince and will get extra attention from me.
