Small update for today: a unit of five harpies. The miniatures are Bones Pyro Imps (or maybe Goblins). I added the flight stand, I added plastic wings; these are bits from the Tomb Kings "Vulture" standard. The "Unit Champion" is a road sign at the edge of the forest. It will read: "Stay Out of the Forest". The sign underneath will read: "Turn Back". This unit is meant to be mini Tengu, the very first ones you would see on the very edge of the forest.

The harpies are really cool. I believe they are Goblins.

What would a new army be without some customized terrain??? Clockwise from bottom left: Up first is a round chaotic altar platform based on a Yin and Yang symbol. One swirl will be very dark grey rock, the other swirl will be very light grey rock. Next, the requisite Beastmen herdstone. Will add skulls, skeletons, armor, shields, etc. Pretty much cleaning out my bits bin and piling up captured goodies. Last, a 2-level rocky outcrop and demon summoning portal. Neat! This last one actually uses rocky formations to mimic the Eye of Tzeentch. Complete with stairs to climb up and throw stuff (people?) down the pupil of the eye which also acts like a well to nowhere. Will eventually add a clawed arm reaching out from the well, ready to enter the mortal realm and all that.

Yes just looked them up: Pyro Goblins! Very cool figures... Yes, that sounds right! See, I have this problem where I impulse buy Bones packs cause they're only $3. Then I get home, open them... and I have a whole tupperware full of Bones dudes opened but unpainted.

This guy is a Bones Beastman with slightly converted stance and I swapped out his big ol' floppy ax for a spear. I think it looks cool! This guy will be run as a Beast Hero of some sort, a fighter. Not my general per say, maybe a medium level hero with some magic items leading a medium sized herd of Gors.

Core; Core; Core. Gors; Gors; Gors. Not the flashiest units in the army - but necessary. -A bunch of the old school single pose halberd beastmen. -Two boxes of new school Gors (which I assembled Wednesday and Thursday night). -A few OOP metal guys and a few random Bones guys. Gives me about 50 Gors to fight with! I am going to start with a list that runs 3 units of 15/ea.

Freshly assembled! Box of 3 Tengu from Mailfaux One will end up being a Beast Shaman. One was converted with some brass rod and will be the BSB. One is kinda dumb, stupid pose... no idea what he'll do yet. Debating putting him in a bird cage (a la Tweety Bird) as a unit filler.

Huge gor units and I like the bones gor.
Regarding the Tengu which look like awesome models, one of them looks like he could be playing the drums so would make a great conversion.
Liking how the army is taking shape.

The mixed Gor units look cool...can you post a close up?
Also why three small units? A big horde of Gors seem brutal....

Also why three small units? A big horde of Gors seem brutal.... KevinC I need to preface this with: "I have yet to play an actual game of 8th with Beastmen". Now that THAT is out of the way, here's my theoretical reasoning: -I was worried about LD. Beasts are low LD army, and they don't cause fear, and they don't have the Mark of Slaanesh, sooo... I was worried about a mob of 50 dudes flipping 180 and peacing out. Three smaller units just helps mitigate risk. My initial build was going to use a Demon Prince as General, and I didn't have points for a LD 9 Beastlord or a BSB, on top of the DP. Missing both of those makes LD checks a scary time. Missing a General of Foot and a BSB kind of steers me away from a regular battle line, which brings me on to... -I wanted to use 3 medium sized units in order to try out the AMBUSH rules. I have dreams of running rampant in the backfield. A unit size of 15 was scientifically chosen as just big enough to survive 1 or 2 spells or 1 or 2 bolt thrower shots and still have enough (10) to connect on a rear or flank charge and negate Steadfast + negate Rank bonus. Three such units will ideally help me time it out and connect (on the same turn) with a Minotaur Charge from the front and a Gor unit from the side. My general style is a bit unorthodox. I think (1) a less cohesive battle line and (2) a few more curve-ball-ambusher units will play to my strengths. All that said, I do love me a HORDE of 50 smelly, hoofy, horny goat boys. That would look amazing on the tabletop.

Anyone on here ever heard of a Hengeyokai? dnd4.wikia.com/wiki/HengeyokaiGiant Badger Shapeshifters!!! Those qualify as Beastmen. Right? (there is so much fluff out there to motivate me to do fun conversions in this army)
