Glory days indeed...well, minor glory but, I am getting close to a 2500pt army. For starters here is the second gyrocopter which completes my air force for the foreseeable future. This one is metal so he had to land on some kind of outcropping. It would be so fiddly to mount on a flying stand..yet using it as a gaming piece would inevitably lead to (heart)break(age). And then we have two more characters I did try to tattoo the butt..luckily I realized my skills aren't up to the task and so I stopped before completely messing up the miniature. The runesmith isn't my favorite model, first of all it's so encrusted in details that it is hard to see the dwarf. And, I don't really understand what he is wielding in this awkward 80s pose. Anyway, he'll still break spells like the best of them. Here is what I am working on at the moment. Some quarrelers. kit-bashed together from older plastic kits The one in the middle could almost pass for Josef Bugman. Fresh brew, crossbow, ranger's cloak, just missing a runic axe of doom.

Like the gyrocopter in your theme looking sturdy on the rock. Actually looks better than if it was on a flying stand imo.

Completely agree about that runesmith. I liked it until I started painting it then wished I'd got the other version. I was also unsure on the hammerers and love the gamezone ones. I opted for the marauder ones since most of my models are that era, and found the opposite, I liked them more as I painted them. Lovely painting all round

Great work! They ate looking powerful indeed!
I must admit, I hate that Runesmith sculpt. The best thing about him is his beard. I have no idea what he is wielding. Maybe some sort of "Rune Stamp"? Even then, why? Makes no sense. That's why I've never gotten one.
That metal Gyrocopter is truly a hard model to put together and post! It has given me fits. I decided to make mine look like it had been hit and was leaving a trail of smoke behind it.

I have a much nicer one (first post in this log) so this guy will likely spend most of his days in the army box. Only when magic push comes to shove, he'll come out and stamp out all evil (pun intended). Getting close on finishing the Lord on shield. Stay tuned.

At this point I will probably magnetise my anvil of doom runesmith

It's one of 2 runesmith models I've never actually wanted.

I used to agree on the runesmith but he's grown on me and is just different from most other sculpts. It helped that I imagine he was about to strike his runestaff onto the ground to invoke the spell breaking (a bit like Gandalf and the 'you shall not pass' bridge scene).

Correct me if I'm wrong, are they Karak Hairn colours? I love understated and well blended. I'm very much enjoying your theme and Thread, keep them coming! 😍

knoffles, valiant effort to explain the runesmith pose. I almost buy it.
imrillion, thanks, it'll keep coming. Karak Hirn you mean? I think they are single color green. I wasn't picking a color from the background, but rather what would look good and be relatively easy to shade/highlight. However, my Lord on Shield will be a certain King Alfrik model, who hails from Karak Hirn so....
My thinking for this army was they are from a minor hold somewhere up (but not way up) north in the World Edge mountain (because I play against chaos quite often). They do stick with using tools and machinery made from iron oak and don't cover themselves in plate armor head-to-toe. Maybe they spend more times outside and not way, way deep in the mountain? Maybe their specialty could be renowned breeders of mine ponies? They are gruff but not too grim. Not too many super-elite units, just a bunch of hard working (and hard drinking) craftsmen.
That's just what's floating around in my head.

yep, that part of dwarf life I don't quite understand. There are holds and there are clans. Seems like holds are often dominated by one clan. but then some clans are spread out over multiple holds. and sometimes clans strike out to start new settlements. So, who is wearing the colors of the holds? Is not every dwarf member of a clan and hence wears that color? or are some clans so minor they don't have colors? or do only the 'elite' units whose members are presumably pulled from multiple clans wear the hold colors? and then layered over that are the guilds, which may also have colors/insignia?
I mean it's not like this is keeping me up at night. And, a bit of confusion and fogginess does also give creative freedom to us.

Yeah, I used Red as my primary color and a Cream as a very distant secondary color. I use lots of brown leather on my models though. That's much more dominant than the cream, though it's not the "official" Clan color. I mostly wanted a lot of deep, rich, earthy tones.
