How about "dwarves are boring"?

My long term is to have 3000 points of all factions (that I collect; no interest in undead/hippie elves/Phoenix throne usurper elves at the moment but that could change with new model releases) fully painted. I figure the only way to really get others into the game is to show them how great the game looks with huge painted armies facing off against each other. And the best way to do that is to be able to supply the armies for both sides. Plus it will allow me to have models that others can borrow to supplement their own growing forces. Once I have 3000 point armies for all the races I'm interested in I'll just start painting a unit here and a unit there, whatever I feel like at the time. That's the plan anyway... This is what I'm doing as well. Except I don't want DoC, Woc in my house. Eventually, I plan on having all the rest though. I'm not too far off either! Knowing me though, I probably won't just stop at 3000 points.

How about "dwarves are boring"? Boring is as boring does. If you ALWAYS take a gunline and NEVER move, then yeah, that's probably true. For both sides.

As I just came back to the hobby my goal is to have a couple of armies so I can invite friends and show them how fun it is without them having to invest anything but thier time and free beer to me Also the hobby is a great way for me to keep myself away from a screen. I have an interest in pointy ears (especially pointy ears on hippies) and chaos so thats what I will collect.

The rest of the army is hammerers, clansmen, longbeards, GYROCOPTERS!, and thunderers (for shooting chaff/warmachine hunters). I actually don't find the army boring, I just know it's been expressed before. I do need to get and try an anvil of doom, because I don't like not participating in the magic phase.

Giving almost an entire army M3 doesn't help either. Most of the time you take the shooting in order to force the enemy to come to you, otherwise you could spend 3-4 turns trying to march towards your opponent to engage in cc. Of course you could take the vanguard rune, but a smart scout placement by your enemy could stop that. It's almost like that's how they wanted Dwarfs to play...

Is there something that you don't like about the 8th edition book? I forgot about this earlier... And it isn't even in the 8th edition army book proper, but... YES. I don't like that a dwarf charges 2D6 just like a human or elf, just the same a goblin.
They should charge and flee and pursue 2D6-1. Just my opinion. It was the full bodied stunty flavor that I loved. Yes, yes... I know 2D6 + 3 is different than 2D6 + 4 on the charge. But when it isn't a charge, they really do go just as fast as a human or a goblin when fleeing or pursuing. Wait. What am I saying... Dwarfs never flee, do they dannytee

Mine typically die to a man(dwarf). Of course I try and make sure that the entire army is stubborn.

I've gotten a couple of my mates into Warhammer by doing exactly that. Having them use my painted armies to vs each other while I effectively games master. I was quite proud a while ago when we had people round and someone pointed at my shelf of Dragon Ogres and was like "what's that" and a former not interested in Warhammer at all friend jumped in with "They're Dragon Ogres, an ancient race that have been round for thousands of years, far longer than humans and even elves" I have taught them well.

The best boon of 8th edition for Dwarfs was giving them the potential to charge 15 inches!!! Move or fire from dwarf handguns/crowsbows encouraged stationary play but now the dwarf charge threat is real which is great. A far cry from their formerly pitiful 6.

I have something similar. At least one unit of each option for each book (including GW-legal Chaos Dwarfs ) and this has led to a couple of friends getting into it, as they don't need to spend money on it. They just build armies and we play over at my place. I do have about 12k points of painted models, but they get lost in the sea of gray. Nothing beats painted armies, but most of my stuff will never be painted (painting is, by far, my least favorite part of the hobby). Even so, all of those cool models have drawn a couple into wanting to play whenever we get the chance. Spent some time getting each unique piece of terrain (complete, pending someone on Etsy actually making what I paid for). Now the only thing I am adding are any Storm of Magic monsters that I come across for cheap, but that is at a slow pace.
