Cullen brought his Skaven all the time a little while back. He just really sucked (or had incredibly bad luck) with them.

This really hurts because I feel as though we keep losing more and more pieces of 8th edition every time some company makes blanket decisions like this. Now, we'll only have really old YouTube BatReps to watch. I suppose YouTube will be the next one to start culling old content....

We should start our own channel. And as I have written before anyone is welcome to the north and we could twitch stream the games

You guys in NY need to start taping your battles and posting batreps to YouTube! Someone needs to step up and start creating 8th content!
I may look into some video equipment or see if my regular opponent has some kind of a setup.
This will for sure necessitate a faster painting schedule so that I can have more variety when I play.

Well choosing AoS over the true original Warhammer speaks loud about MiniWargaming culture... Tsk, commoners!

If someone knew how to set it up I’d host any fantasy battle content in my basement. I’m not interested in learning video editing but I’ll provide minis, terrain, etc.

I would certainly watch a report of those eefl mega battles.
I thought about doing a YouTube channel with Warhammer etc but time and dedication is too much of an issue ..I barely have time to paint!
That's a shame about Miniwargaming.

I Have all the equipment (camera, light, microphone) from my main job that i can use. I have armies to play as well - just need opponent in NY to maybe play a weekend, record and I can edit with time. It would be interesting if EEFL becomes a content creating website. Thoughts? I guess we need mr KevinC in here!

I'll always love 8th but I do think the community would have been or will be better off if there was consolidation.
Unfortunately 8th has died off in the eyes of many.
9th represents the best chance for this type of gaming to survive imo. I can understand why the folks here don't want to do that tho.

Just because it's died off "in the eyes of many," doesn't mean it's dead. Hell, people still play third edition. All you really have to do is keep the game alive in arenas like this one, and start a youtube channel or twelve. You may not get a ton of views, but so what?
Also, start teaching your friends how to play. Some fair portion of us here have a bajillionty points of a half dozen or more armies, let them use your models. Especially painted ones. Build 500-750 point starter armies that have shooting, and close combat, with a level one wizard. You get most of the rules without a lot of the extra stuff that gets added with monsters, level four wizards, cannons, etc. Part of the issue of barrier to entry is the community itself always wanting to play 2500 point games. If we played more 1000 point games, the game would be easier for other people to get into. And those games can be loads of fun. And you can play, like, three of them in a day.
And I disagree that 9th Age represents the best chance for this type of gaming to survive. But that's a conversation for another thread, I think.

There's nothing wrong with playing the game you want. But this community is shrinking, not growing.
AOS and 9th have already overtaken the community.
And I get it. People wanted an updated edition back at the end of 8th. I see the draw of a system like 9th. I'm not super interested in it but it makes sense why 8th isn't being supported as much.
Sigmar or 9th look like the only path forward to have the type of community we saw back in 8th. Unless GW decides to reboot WFB.
And you're correct that people still play third edition. They also have a pretty healthy community (compared to 8th) but it's actually based on collecting/painting vintage models. Very few actually play third. Most of them just hate the modern rules set, so are stuck playing that weirdo edition.

I'm not sure on 9ths overall trajectory. 2.0 has met with some mixed reviews. Honestly if they just did an 8.5 edition they would be fine but the more they get into 'creating their own game' the more they lose folks who are just playing 9th because they came from 8th.
